The War Doctor has arrived! Who is he? What are his ties to the Doctor's past? Next episode! The 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor!

mark saunders

Congratulations, guys. You have now reached the 50th anniversary celebrations for Doctor Who. You could go straight in and watch The Day of the Doctor, or you could watch two celebratory shows, An Adventure in Time and Space which is the story of the show's creation in 1963, followed by the 10 minute prequel to the TDOTD, called Night of the Doctor.

BTW Sir John Hurt is acting royalty, having starred in numerous films in his long career, most notably Alien (1979), Harry Potter (he was Olivander), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and he was the voice of the dragon in the Merlin tv series.

Best tip for watching the next full episode (the 50th Anniversary) in order to get the best reaction - try to get someone you know to blur out the guest cast credits (not the opening credits, just the cast names that appear on the screen shortly after), or find a version with that already done. Trust me, you won't regret it as seeing certain names appear does spoil the surprise otherwise. Hoping to get a few other fellow Patreon Whovian watchers to agree with me here without giving away any spoilers :-)

Omg we're finally here! I suggest you to PLEASE DON'T GO STRAIGHT 'TO THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR'. There are some important 50th anniversary shorts that ties in with that. You don't have to make reactions to them, you can watch in your own time (but of course it would be cool of you do!). But I also strongly suggest you two react to 'An Adventure In Space And Time'! It's a really great piece of biographical film about the first Doctor's actor William Hartnell and how it all started!

Siti Dee

John Hurt is the actor's name! He's Ollivander (the wandmaker) on Harry Potter! Great actor, gone too soon! RIP

Siti Dee

Yes i agree with this!

BeastialMoon

They're using files I sent them on a huge hard drive, however, that sounds like a great idea. I'll see if I can send them an edited version

BeastialMoon

Okay, what I'm going to do is cut out those short clips. Music in the scene will be a little off, but not too terrible. I've removed the two Big Spoilers, and kept Jenna, Smith, and War Doctor. I've also taken the liberty of adding better subtitle file and fixing the timing of said subtitle. Does all this sound good?

Peter Wearne

Perfect, although you might want to edit your comment to remove a direct reference to the W.D. since using the full title might be considered as a teensy bit of a spoiler in and of itself. And while I have the opportunity, thanks for supplying our awesome reviewers with the visual meat on which they feast. These reactions are the best, but you at the very least deserve a salute for putting the work in to supply the episodes. Cheers :-)

Anyone knows when the Fantastic Beasts reaction video is up ?

Temba His Arms Wide

Make sure you watch The Night of the doctor Mini episode befor the next one!

Lucia

Cool you don’t need to watch night of the doctor mini episode. It’s like saying to watch the prequel of other episodes. The prequels don’t explain much. Nice reaction. Can’t wait to see you reaction on the next few series Series 10 tied with series 1 is my favourite series. There’s been 12 Series so far. If you not aware you nearly at the end of series 7, there’s the 50th anniversary special & the Christmas special after this episode . Out of all the doctors in new series. Matt Smiths Is my least favourite so off and David Tennant my 3rd favourite still like some of his episodes. I was getting mixed of adventure in space of time up lol but I’m not saying why because of Christmas special series 10 spoilers

Lucia

Wouldn’t that spoil who’s the 12th doctor though? (I think he was in it along with Matt Smith or im getting mixed up) If you watch adventure in space and time. I never watched it and still understood the references of the 50th anniversary special

Lucia

Also as others has said try to ignore the guest credits in the 50th special however you don’t have to blur you could just look away when the guest Names appear

Siti Dee

Nope, the 12th doctor was not in the movie. The movie has literally nothing to do with the upcoming doctors.

Lucia

Something I forgot to mention and I don’t know if you know this Also I’m not going to say much but the 9th doctor Christopher Eccleston. Had a lot of issues with cast and show runners of doctor who and suffered from Anorexia. Which is why he only did 1 series

Peter Wearne

Firstly, a huge thanks for these wonderful Doctor Who reactions, it really warms by heart to see how much you are emotionally invested in the show and its characters, it really shows on screen. Thank you :-) Now... there have been lots of thoughts and ideas about the 50th Anniversary being thrown around in these comments so I thought it might be useful to summarise (a) pertinent non-spoilery stuff it would be useful for you to know in advance of watching it and (b) my best advice for what/how to watch it: 1) Non-spoilery John Hurt info: From the ep.13 reaction it seems like you were thinking the name "Hurt" was related to the character. It isn't, the ACTOR'S name is John Hurt and he was an amazing British character actor - as someone above said, you guys would remember him best as Mr Ollivander the Wand Shop owner from Harry Potter. 2) Non-spoilery Dr Who background: The classic series ended in 1989 (yup, over 30 years ago), while "Nu Who" beginning with Chris Ecclestone began in 2005. However, you may be unaware that there WAS an attempt to revive it in 1996, with the Brit actor Paul McGann (REMEMBER THAT NAME) as a new regeneration. It wasn't well received so nothing came of it, but Paul McGann's doctor is still treated as a canon regeneration despite his single screen appearance - he has done loads of "Big Finish" audio recordings since then with his own set of companions (including Chariie, Cerys, Lucy, Tamsin and Molly - make a note of those names too) so deserves to be recognised as a legitimate Doctor. Now armed with the above info I strongly recommend the following viewing order, whether or not you react to it all: Watch first: The Night of the Doctor, a 7-minute mini Doctor Who episode available on YouTube - this one is an official, fully integrated introductory episode specifically filmed and written to be watched before the 50th Anniversary episode. Trust me, it adds a lot to the context of the show and acts as a wonderful bridge between old and Nu Who. Personally I think it deserves its own reaction but I know how busy you two are. FIngers crossed you think its worth it though! Watch second: The 50th Anniversary episode, with the guest star credits either skipped or blurred out to avoid spoilers that would otherwise really detract from the actual reaction (as I said above) Watch third (can actually be watched out of order but I recommend last of the three): An Adventure in Space and Time - a docu-drama showing how Doctor Who started back in 1963 with the first actor to play the Doctor, William Hartnell. Although a docu-drama it adds a lot to understanding the show as a whole and is brilliantly written and acted, its a real treat and deserves to be watched as part of the whole 50th Anniversary package. Hope all that makes sense, and I look forward to seeing your reactions - I'm confident you'll love what you see.

Lucia

Ok, I must of got mixed up between one of his episodes (obviously not going to say which one due to spoilers).

Lucia

Also I don’t see the point of night of the doctor it just shows the 8th regenerating doesn’t have anything to do with the 50th special in my opinon and same goes with adventure in space time. I’ve never seen it though it just sounds similar to one of 12s episodes but spoiler

Ignore everyone in your comment section and just contact FailWhale on this one.

The reason John Hurt got the big moment there is because he is basically acting royalty - and it was a complete shock to the audience. They'd kept this under wraps well. Really looking forward to seeing the next couple of episodes... :)
