Happy Birthday Emma, my gift to you is a girlfriend (maybe) (Patreon)

Hello my gemlins!!

Since it's our favourite girl's birthday today, I wanna take the opportunity to talk about something I've been cooking up lately 😊

So, I don't know if any of you remember this girl from chapter 05:

Even before she appeared in #MUTED I had played with the idea of one day giving Emma a partner. I decided it had to be a girlfriend and I knew her name would be Alice (pronounced Ah-lees), but then after she had appeared in the comic,  I couldn't really find any space for her to fit in within the main story, and I dropped the idea for the time being (which has happened more than once while #MUTED was running, so if you find any plot points that got never resolved, this is why LOL).

When I reread #MUTED a few months ago I was surprised to realise that I never even mentioned her name in the story?! I was so sure that I had AT LEAST introduced her as Alice, but it turns out I didn't?! I was beginning to wonder if I had imagined even giving her a name because it took me so long to find any references of her anywhere, until I straight up pulled out my old phone to go thru private conversations where I was sure I had mentioned her LOL

AND I FOUND HER:

With her name right there in the image and all, haha. I don't know why it was so important to me to find out exactly WHEN I created her (May 2018, then talked about her in Dec 2018) and that I had indeed already given her a name at the time.

But yea, upon rereading #MUTED for the German release I was overcome with the strong desire to revisit those ideas of a potential girlfriend for Emma. One thing led to another and suddenly I was doodling them together. Alice looks a bit different now than she did back then, I think I like this more... flowy hair on her more.

As I mentioned before I have been kinda brainstorming a potential sequel down the line, and if I ever get around to that, Emma will get a bit more focus than she did in the OG story. Because I love her and she deserves it. I'll keep details about Alice's character to myself for now, because I don't wanna risk doing a 180 down the line after already talking about her too much, haha.

I also wanna make clear for those that might not be super familiar with the queer identities, that Emma having a partner will never mean that she's not asexual anymore!! That fact remains, I am not taking that from her. But being on the spectrum of asexuality doesn't mean she can't fall in love, romance is still in the cards for aces (unless they're aromantic, too, in which case there's not really an interest in romantic relationships at all but I can't speak too much on that experience).

So yeah, that's what I have for you on this blessed day during the blesses pride month (happy pride btw!! 🏳️‍🌈)!!

What do you think about Emma getting a gf at some point? 👀 Is that something you'd ever wanted for her? Something you never thought about? Or did you expect her to be aromantic and not be interested in relationships in general?
