Hello my gemlins, happy Tuesday!!

Here's a small preview of what I've been doing since I last posted. I will compile everything until the end of the month and share it as a sketch collection for $5 Patrons :')

The first few days of trying to find my footing were super frustrating, what got me through is being a very, very stubborn Capricorn, so I spent a good few hours just repeatedly drawing the same thing over and over, just to find out what exactly it was that I found so ugly. I'm happy to say I did find out and that I think I fixed it for now, although it probably won't look any different to any of you XD All my issues are just minor things. (In this example it was side profiles!)

After moving on from this first struggle, I sketched faces, heads, over and over. Sometimes using refs, sometimes not. My goal wasn't to really do portrait studies, more like properly observe features and shapes and get them onto paper quickly and efficiently.

The entire week can probably summed up with:  I don't need these results to be good, I need the lessons I learned to be good.

And I think they were good lessons indeed. I'm a slow learner so I have to repeat things about a million times until they settle in my brain, but I do think I picked up a few tiny useful things 😤😤😤 Which feels pretty good.

After half a week of sketchbook doodles and dirty graphite smudges everywhere, I felt confident enough to give the tablet a try again and started doing some small landscape... studies? One of them you can see above!

My plan is to do one or two of them each day to warm up for the next couple of days/weeks, because they're surprisingly fun and for me personally a good way to get into the swing of things without already tiring myself out with humans, when I have a whole day of drawing nothing but people ahead of me :')

I think especially landscape studies will be helpful for me in the whole observe properly division, and to get my shapes clearer and simpler, because it's mostly shapes I'm not used to. Faces are more difficult, because as soon as I look at a photo my brain will start simplifying it into my style, because drawing characters is my main focus every day. Does that make sense? :V Also backgrounds are one of my 5000 weaknesses and I'm determined to turn at least some of those into strengths in this lifetime 😤😤

However, I missed drawing faces real fast, so I doodled some of the peeps above after my quick studies, too XD Again, this is just a fraction of what I've been doing last week, I'll share more soon :)

I'm still not really fully happy with everything but I want to get back into the swing of things now, I feel the familiar itch in my fingers again that I've been waiting for 🙏 I've been working on the next episode today, finally and I made good progress, so there's definitely a new episode coming your way very soon x) ❤❤❤

(also, fanta told me that 2019 started pretty much the same way: me being in big slump mood and hating everything I do and it took me a few weeks to find my drive again instead of just despising every single stroke I did dsfdsfsd It was kinda reassuring. If I got out of it once I can do it as many times as need be lolol)

I apologise for rambling :x ❤

HEY. TAKE BACK THAT LAST APOLOGY. RIGHT NOW. I like it when you ramble and as official declarer of random things, I declare than 2020 is the year of the ramble

Tambria

Your rambling is great content for us patrons, I think we like to know how things are and how hard you work to draw the beautiful art for us and yourself. Keep on, keep on! 💜

Ahleena

I love the detail you go into explaining your thought process! It's awesome to watch artists improve. I also am a patron of fantakoi and watched them develop their art as well. Keep it up!

Sometimes we need to have people tell us it's time to shut up. This is NOT one of those times. Love a fellow rambler

Professormac2025

I loved your 'ramble'. I actually got quite a bit out of it so thank you for sharing ❤ 2019 was a weird year of slumps and highs for so many people I know including me. 2020 should be an awesome year. Glad to see you feeling the itch again.🥳

Saia

But...we love your ramblings. You have nothing to apologize for. 😁 I love seeing all of your different drawing experiments/exercises! Glad that you are doing well and getting good things out of them too. ❤️

We're here because we love reading your ramblings! Thank you for sharing it with us! I can't wait to see your sketches 😍

The rambling is perfectly fine. I honestly have always wanted to draw, but I'm too much of a perfectionist when it comes to drawing, and now my arthritis has gotten worse in the past 3 years. I'm 32 by the.

-Whispers to you- Never apologise for rambling, feeling down or wanting to explain something more fully! I'm late to this but I wanted to say HOLY HELL that background monochrome is awesome!! O 3 O I'm in awe, it looks great- you can see depth in it, intention of where the light is coming in, and those branches -grabs at my heart- You're doing so well!! I love the little faces too~ <3 It's so nice to see your sketches and I'll say it time and time again, you see so much fluidity and looking back you see the improvement through these quick doodles more often than you do looking back at completed works. I loveeee~~ <33 Keep it up hon!

YES! One of my favorite art YouTubers says "Drawings, while you're learning, don't need to be good -- they just need to teach you something." I have this written down and I look at it whenever I'm unhappy with my sketchbook.

I think it is natural to judge oneself when it comes to perfection. I do it all of the time. But I believe most comic artists do this also. We can be our own worse enemy. Sometimes it's good to have others look at your work and sincerely let you know what they feel (I mean other cartoonists you are friends with). I love your style no matter what so I am happy :)

PS: For backgrounds, have you ever used SketchUp to help or photographs?
