Q&A Live: Wednesday March 20th @12pm ET (link below)

Deep Dive Live: Wednesday March 27th @11am ET  (link in separate upcoming post for Inner Circle, Elite, & Top Fan Members) Topic: Puppy Training - What I Train First (details below)

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR! :)

What is a Live Q&A vs. a Deep Dive?

Live Q&A's typically last 45-60 minutes and are open to all paid DOGGY•U members. Crew and above members can submit a question prior to the live. Q&A's are recorded and you can find every Q&A I've ever done in the "Q&A" section in the "Collections" tab.

Deep Dive's typically last 30-60 minutes and are recorded, so if you can't make it to the live, the recording is posted later that day. They focus on one topic, covered in a webinar-style lecture. You can also see all previous Deep Dive's in the "Collections" tab. Deep Dive's are a member benefit for Inner Circle, Elite, and Top Fan members.

LIVESTREAM Q&A INFO:

Reminder that our livestreams are via Zoom and I will post the YouTube replay link after the event with a brief summary of the topics covered. You can always go back and watch past livestreams even if you can't be there live. Participants will be muted so please put follow-up questions that pop up during the Zoom in the chat box. Reminder that questions should be related to the topic I am currently covering.

Those members who are at the "Crew" ($6/month) level or above are able to submit one question per month with their membership. Leave that question in the comments below.

The cut-off for submitting questions is 2 days prior to the Zoom (Monday March 18th by 12pm ET is the last date to submit) so that I have time to prepare. Please limit questions to 1 per person so I have time to answer them within the hour. Questions should be general enough that I don't need to know your specific dog/behavior to answer the question (this also allows everyone to benefit from the question). If you're looking for more specific feedback on your dog, be sure to join the Top Fan membership level for video review of your training.

DEEP DIVE INFO: Puppy Training - What I Train First

This Deep Dive was inspired by a question from one of the members.

It can be really confusing to figure out what's most important to train when you get a young pup, especially when you watch trainers (like me) train so many things to young puppies. Trainers are obsessed with training, and it's their whole job, so they have more time than is typical to train multiple sessions a day. But what's really important for YOU to train first? And, if my time was limited, what would I prioritize?

It's a topic I've been thinking about a lot as I start to prepare for baby dog to come home (hopefully this fall!), so that's what I'll be chatting about in this month's Deep Dive!

If you're an Inner Circle, Elite or Top Fan member you will receive a link to the livestream in a separate post. If you're interested in this topic and are at the Member or Crew level, you can always upgrade if this topic interests you, and get access to all past Deep Dives (19th months worth!).

Back to the Live Q&A: Please post your question for the March 20th livestream below in the comments!

See you next week!

Question: Do you think it's true that a puppy can be too young to learn specific things? Not just generally too young to start training, but heel walking for example

Caite Williams

Looking forward to this one! Thanks for the Q&A. Koda is a 9wk old Australian labradoodle training for CGC and eventually service dog for epilepsy. Having trouble with mouthing. Do we wait it out? If not, training techniques would be a big help. Hope the vacation was great!

I use my SD intermittently due to the nature of my disability, and I'm wondering what is fair usage to keep her PA and other skills strong. How often should I be doing a PA run with her to stay fresh? So that, when I do need her, I can reasonably expect her to be at her best.

DOGGY•U

Hey C Williams! I just noticed that you are at the Member level ($3) on Patreon. Submitting questions for the Live Q&A is a Crew level ($6/month) and above membership benefit. To apply the rules fairly to all members, Member-level patrons are not able to submit questions, however, they are able to attend the Q&As and watch the replays. I know it may feel like I'm being a stickler here, but I want to be sure that everyone feels like they're getting the membership benefits they are paying for. If you're interested in upgrading to the Crew level, I'd be happy to dive into this question. Alternatively, I do have a deep dive on puppy behavior that will likely help answer this question for you. You can find that at the Inner Circle level at this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/all-things-for-74993930 I hope you can understand my reasoning behind this.

I have a 7 month Aussie, she takes CGC, Nose work classes weekly and started your BIA course for service dog. She was doing good at noise boop target everywhere we played it for a week. Now she won’t nose boop the target like she once did. Am I pushing her too fast? Gonna start from basic with nose boop after a few days off from it. I’m confused

Cathy

Strategies for building treat/tug drive, especially when you've tried the basic tips like "trail mix" instead of just one kind of treat, training alongside a treat-motivated dog to stimulate a little competition, higher value treats, etc. or are there other reinforcement options? I don't know if that works as one question, if not, obviously pare it down to what's reasonable to answer. Thank you!

DOGGY•U

Hey Cathy! I actually *just* wrote an 8 page manifesto on this exact topic! While I won't be able to share the entire thing in the Q&A, I will touch on a few options, and then am hoping to have than that video is scheduled to come out in May at the moment. But I will touch on some common pitfalls with using food rewards, and then also unconventional ideas.

DOGGY•U

Questions are now closed for March so that I have time to prepare - see you Wednesday!
