Dogs are incredibly pattern cognizant. Because of this, one of my favorite things is using patterns to simplify training for our dogs! In this video I show you how you can use predictable patterns to teach your dog the retrieving pattern of going out, grabbing a thing, and immediately returning to you. I will also show you how to use loose leash walking patterns to be able to easily integrate novelty into those patterns, which an be really helpful for service dog work!

I throw things thinking I'm playing fetch with my dog and she looks at me like," yeah, cool. You go get that!" I can now work on this with her as it's one of the functions I wanted her to do. Thank you!

Super timely! I was —just— working on this with my dog. Thank you!

Our Australian labradoodle pup is used to similar routines when it comes to going out. Bella work and she waits before going out the door. On the flip side she also is used to patterns in tugging certain toys I’m trying to get her to fetch, and always a morning pattern to say off and leave it if she’s getting too excited around the family. WILL make sure to follow the right steps when we start meds retrieval. Thanks for the awesome video!

can you link the platform that you are using please? : )

I don't even know HOW I taught my Mal to fetch. He just... Does it now. Managed to use the commands he knows to get him to pick up my shoe for me, I just had to kick it away a bit so he knew that's what I needed him to get. We haven't done object discrimination yet. The biggest problem I'm having not just with a heel but anything really, is he'll listen to me outdoors, but he's just anxiously looking at everything else. He knows the "look" command but I can't get him to do it outside.

Whenever I'm struggling with attention from a dog, I think about how I can build his confidence by decreasing the difficulty and distraction level and then slowly building it back up. Whenever I am having any issue I think about how I can slice the training down smaller so that they can be successful.
