So I labeled this as session three so I may have had a session in the morning before I'm dressed that I didn't record which is why we go from intro to session 3 LOL!

In any event, the focus here is still marking for getting on the mat, but rewarding in the down. Notice that my reward placement influences his behavior by the end and he's going to place AND laying down. Reward placement can do a lot of the work for you in training :)

Awesome! It was neat to see your criteria increase gradually, but fast, thru: you standing close by to your increased your distance from the platform, and from you clicking for just hopping up to clicking for his beginning to lie down until, at the very end, clicking for his complete hop-up-and-lie-down sequence. I tend to either increase criteria too slow or not at all. Then I get stuck there. So this was good to see in real time. I learned how much “click for behavior, feed for position” (Bob Bailey’s adage) can help when training “close the door.” Changing my treat delivery so it was not somewhere out in space, but instead right at the spot where I wanted Trip’s nose to press on the door’s surface, we got our training breakthru for that trick. (Tho last night he got stuck holding his nose on the door jamb, waiting for a click. So clearly that trick is not as fluent as I thought!)
