Deep Dive Live: Wednesday Dec. 15th @2 pm ET/11am PT

Ever wanted direct feedback from me on your training? This month we're doing a Patreon-Member Live Video Review and Troubleshooting Session!

I'm trying something new! It may crash and burn, or it may be really useful/cool. We won't know until we try!

Please Read All Instructions Carefully:

This month I decided that I'm going to try a new format. I'm going to be reviewing a member's videoed training session live. In the past I've done private 3-minute video review as part of the Top Fan Tiers, but since I've moved away from that model, I decided to bring it out for Inner Circle members as a way for everyone to benefit and learn from different handlers and dogs.

In this month's Deep Dive, we'll watch your video, and then I'll provide timestamped feedback, point out things you're doing well, modifications you can make for future training sessions as well as potential next steps.

For this first one, if you're interested in your video being reviewed live, I'll have you comment on THIS POST that will show up in your feed with your interest and a sentence or two on the training/exercise you're working on. Initially, you will just be posting your interest and topic - not any video. The person chosen will be notified by me that you are chosen for the review and asked for submission. Video would need to be submitted by Monday January 13th, end of day.

The exercise/video could be loose leash walking work, task training (non-scent-based), some public access work you're doing etc. It can also be an exercise you've seen here on Patreon that you're working on with your dog. It doesn't have to be a giant training problem. It could be something you're just looking to refine or tighten up. Note that the video should be of training you're doing and not just a problem you're having.

For this first one, I'm going to pick a person/topic based on what's in my wheelhouse since, presumably, I won't have worked with you before, and I need a topic conducive to this type of review. In the future, I may elect to do it as a lottery type system, but I need to try this out first and see how it works.

Please note: By commenting your interest and topic/exercise on this Deep Dive post, you are consenting to having your video watched by all Inner Circle members who will be watching me publicly review and troubleshoot the training. While my aim in review is never to be mean or offensive, and I'm generally a pretty positive person, this could potentially be a sensitive ask, I'm pretty honest and direct, it will be live and sometimes my foot firmly plants in my mouth, and we will be looking at specific aspects of your training as part of this review. If this isn't something you want done semi-publicly, please do not apply.

All that being said, I think this could be a really helpful and fun exercise for those looking for a little extra feedback on their training. And those that are watching will not only be able to see the troubleshooting process, but they'll also see how I assess and review video and what aspects I look at that can effect dog and human outcomes. So, hopefully you all think this is a neat idea. We'll try it out and we'll see how we like it!

Rules:

- Members who are Inner Circle level or above (Inner Circle, Top Fan) will be eligible.

- Video submission must be of you actually working with your dog on something and not just a general question. We need actual video footage to review of you two working together in a training scenario.

- Maximum video length is 3 minutes

- You must be able to load that video onto YouTube, set to Unlisted for submission

- You do not need to be able to make the livestream to submit, but it would be cool if you can be there.

Okay, hopefully that all made sense! We'll see how it goes!

Love it!!! I’m working on loose leash walking and am currently trying to fade out food reinforcements on our leisure walks (when there aren’t any explicit distractions around), but am having a horribly hard time because he is a VERY food-driven apartment dog, so walks in the park or residencial areas with more green, animals, etc. are extremely hard for me to keep his attention. While he doesn’t pull too much anymore, I’m still struggling with air sniffs, not answering recall, feels like he just kind of spaces out… to answer a question most people might have, yes we do get out in nature as often as possible, walks close to greenery every day, long park walks usually at least twice a week.

I commented on someone else’s Q&A comment about this, so please feel free to evaluate where the topic would fit best. Also feel free to choose between this topic and the other one I commented about loose leash walking… I have been training this for almost 2 years now with him, but his SD harness is still a sensitive item (I think it’s a going-over the head/ears issue because after I fasten it he seems to forget about it and loves working). His leisure harness is not as sensitive (I have tried on so many different models… none of them seem to please him), but I still need a food lure to have his head go through it.
