It's been very cold here in the UK.

It's so tough! I tried to walk CoolWhip today but 5 minutes in with 30 mph winds we had to turn around. I couldn't deal!

Great video! Coming from a background of a Dressage trainer with horses, I am well aware of the timing of for example, .. using a rein to create bend, and the very moment they do give to pressure you release the rein to loose as fast as you can! Before long, the horse can feel the weight of the rein either directly or indirectly being lifted and they will give/bend to the lightest touch of all!! It gets to the point that the aid is nearly invisible!! 😁

Yes! -16°F this morning... on days like this we try to excersize and mentally stimulate in other ways. But it's haaaaard!

Great video! I'm not sure if it's ok to ask something here. If it's not, just let me know. It's kinda related to the night time triggers. My SDIT is 9mo old. She is a mix breed with lots of different breeds. Mostly GSD, Mastiff and Great Dane though with small percentages of other large breeds. We potty trained her with door bells and she's done great, but a little over a month or so ago she stopped ringing them at night. She stands about 10ft from the door and stares. The bells hang off our sliding glass door and I am almost positive she is scared of that "terrifying reflection dog." LOL! When we first brought her home at 10wks old, she used to bark at her reflection in the sliding glass door and our closet doors in our bedroom have mirrors. I thought we were over this, but apparently not. She doesn't bark anymore, but she refuses to go near the door at night. I tried closing the curtain. That didn't work. She will go and ring the bell, if I stand next to the door, encourage her and then praise her when she does it, but she won't do it by herself. People have suggested I should just cover the glass or move the bells, but I really want to help her get over this. Should I just keep encouraging her, like I have been or do you have any other suggestions?

If it’s not effecting any other work, and the bathroom situation is compromised, I’d honestly just move the bell to reduce any conflict around elimination. If it’s bleeding into the work, I’d work her around mirrors on a regular basis.

Thanks for the tips on pressure training, I’m going to try it! Also.. hello from summer time down here in the southern hemisphere ☀️🏖️🤓 hope it warms up for you soon!

Melody Townsend

This was so helpful!! You said a few things I needed to hear for both of them. Thanks so much! Update coming soon, but we are doing great!! Hugs!!

Yes I’m out in the frigid wind walking Trip right now. Hi from Idaho:)

Earth2Wendy

Thank you. Great discussion, all excellent questions.

Thanks for the collar vs harness thoughts! I had expected you to say that collars are easier to use when the dog is wearing a vest (SD or SDiT). Anyway, good food for thought.

When working a service dog in a non dog friendly outdoor environment, I assume you don’t let them eliminate? Any recommendations for training that? Or do you have a video on that somewhere?

DOGGY•U

First is making sure they eliminate on leash and on cue. This is typically enough for most dogs because the setup for eliminating, and putting it on cue puts it under stimulus control. If not, making sure you remove their vest any time you're going to let them potty, noticing signs they need to go and finding a place at the venue where they can go, and most importantly, making sure you give them a chance to relieve prior to entering.

Hello! I’m new to Patreon. What is the schedule for the live Q&As? I want to make sure I’m there !

DOGGY•U

Hi Grier! Welcome! Did you watch the welcome video by any chance? https://www.patreon.com/posts/welcome-to-heres-108817050 Lives are typically held the second or third week of the month, and the call for questions comes out the week before with the date and time. The date of the livestream is also in the emailed newletter on the first friday of the month under "Patreon" that shows what's up for the month and schedule as soon as I have it. Best, Laura
