Week 6 homework - building on more foundations.

Reminder that I am brand new to competition obedience and these exercises, and so is Denver. You're watching us practice what we're learning in class.

If you're interested in competition obedience, finding a local class can be a great option (vs. just copying what we're doing because that's kind of like playing the telephone game). I'm showing you our work to show you what it's like for a trainer to learn something new - mistakes, flubs, mess ups and all!

This was the last week of our first session. We'll have a week break, and then after this I think I'll be doing monthly updates of where we're at and what we're working on, if ya'll are interested in continuing to see our trajectory/progress.

I love watching your progression with Denver! Would it be possible to see separate tabs for competition obedience, shed hunt and fetch etc? I would love to do some of these with my little SDIT pup, but we are simply not quite ready for those yet. Also perhaps a livestream on shed hunt and AKC fetch?? You and Denver seem to excel at those two. :)

Hi Christina! I do have a Competition Obedience collection and then the others will be in the "Dog Sports" collection. But I am planning to do either a deep dive or public video on AKC fetch. Maybe shed hunt in the fall as we're taking a break from that for the summer. You can also search for the keyword. I try to tag them when I upload them! :)

Cristal and Petrie

Love watching the sticky hand touch. Petrie and I are slowly processing with this… it took her a long time to get what I wanted (which is obviously a me issue) and kept trying to mouth my hand (even though she has a solid “touch”). We can do about 5 seconds of sticky touch now. How long did you build up his duration before progressing to a moving target? Or did the movement actually help with the stickiness? (If that makes sense lol).

ooo good question. I think it was about 5-10 seconds and then I started moving the hand up. So starting with it low, then stationary and high, then when adding motion the hand went low again for a bit so it was easy to follow. Some dogs will never get high like denver who has a giraffe neck. I would never have Whip do this same exercise at this head height as she's not built like Denver is. Hopefully that makes sense and yay for awesome progress!
