✈️ What’s it like going through TSA with a service dog?

What’s it really like to go through airport security with a service dog? In this video, I take you behind the scenes of Denver and I’s very first TSA experience. You’ll see real footage from the airport, how we trained ahead of time, what went smoothly—and what definitely didn’t. 😅

Whether you're prepping your service dog for travel or just curious about the process, this video is packed with tips, honest moments, and lessons learned (including one big reinforcer mistake I won’t make again!).

What’s covered:

• TSA training prep (at home & the day of)
• Real-time footage of us navigating security
• Pattern work for new environments
• What went great + what needs more work
• Potty training progress
• How I advocate for my dog during travel
• Thoughts on reinforcement value and its impact on behavior

📍If you're preparing your service dog for air travel, make sure to watch this before you go!

Can't wait for your relief-on-cue course 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I can so relate to the frustration/exasperation/ sigh at seeing behaviours fall apart which previously seemed in hand. No failure, just feedback - but sometimes I'd like to have less feedback to deal with 🙄. A question: how do you setup videoing the two of you (for self-review) when you're working in public? This video is AWESOME!

DOGGY•U

your comment about liking to have "less feedback to deal with" cracked me up. Same :) In public I use Meta glasses to film hands free, or I literally lean my phone against a wall like in the first videos that are horizontal and I'm taking his equipment off to practice. But I got the meta glasses a few months ago and they've been so helpful in trying to capture footage without affecting my training.

That was fun & educational to watch!! Denver really did awesome!! Not sure if I could ever fly with my girl, she's a long backed, 109lb now (😬) girl!! Getting her in front of me in a bulkhead seat might be an issue! LOL!

DOGGY•U

Might need to fly with a friend to make that happen, but I'd call the airline! Sometimes they can give an extra seat on one side.

Cristal and Petrie

You both did so well with this! Awesome to watch. Looking forward to the public transpo video!

I’m training a service dog for my child with autism. What programs /videos do you recommend from Doggy U? We love watching Denver grow!

DOGGY•U

Hi Jasmine! I don't have any videos on ASD specifically. The general foundations however, would be exactly what I've done with Denver, so I recommend starting at the first video from the "Raising Denver" series. Then you'll have to decide what tasks you're son would benefit most from. Deep Pressure Therapy and behavior interruption as well as "go get help" are common.

This is so helpful. I love how you get to do training with a group for things like ambulance, movie theater and TSA. I SOOOOO with there was someone in my area for that sort of thing.

DOGGY•U

I do love training with other people sometimes. I wonder if you could form a group locally to do monthly field trips to the mall etc.

Thank you for this valuable information. I have a 21 month old girl, who is still afraid of buses. We're working on going on one every other day, just getting on and then off at the next stop and walking back. We have been alternating with getting her used to riding on an elevator. Again, she's very fearful of that too. I have to work on her stay with distance, duration and distractions... We have a one hour flight planned for August and it's June now .. so I think I have time to get her ready.

DOGGY•U

I love how much you're putting into your training <3 Make sure you include lots of time to just watch busses and do decompression walks as well. Two months isn't a ton of time (depending on how long you've been working on it). If possible I would get a trainer on board to help assess readiness.
