I’ve had so many people ask for a service dog socialization checklist—and instead of just sending over a static list, I thought: why not make something better together?

I’ve created a free checklist that covers essential categories for socializing your service dog—but here’s the cool part: I’m updating it based on your feedback.

👉 Click on the YouTube logo (bottom right corner) and watch the video in YouTube as that is where the link to the checklist and comments should be posted.
👉 Drop your suggestions in the comments on youtube or upvote others if someone already has added your suggestion.

Let’s make thoughtful, intentional socialization less overwhelming—and more powerful through community collaboration. 💬🐶

If you are interested in helping others find these resources (and grow the channel) please:

1) Watch the video in YouTube by clicking the "YouTube" logo above and watching on youtube's website.

2) Click the thumbs up button on YouTube

3) Leave a comment in the YouTube comments section (even if it's just an emoji or two!)

4) Watch all the way through (increases my watch time which is huge on YT)

5) Share with a friend who you think will benefit from watching it!

Fantastic resource!

DOGGY•U

I got this right before going to bed last night and showed it to my husband saying "well isn't that the nicest way to go to bed ever" <3

Maureen Watt

Fantastic! So happy to see these checklists. I love it!

Cosette Kerner

Love this! I would add live entertainment / music! Like guitars, and different types of performers! Marching bands, etc!

Melissa Kuster

I can't wait to see it. Will you be posting the checklist here?

Debbie

Today a deputy helped me train being pulled over and approached by a deputy in uniform with the patrol car lights flashing. We play acted the whole normal check - pulling out drivers license, insurance card, etc. while my SD was in the back seat. My SD was in his drive vest so was securely seat belted in - as he would be if I’d really been pulled over. My SD did excellent - no negative responses at all. BTW - I’ve never been pulled over so don’t anticipate this happening in real life but I wanted to know how my SD would respond with someone, especially a man, coming up to my open car window. I’ve also walked up to a group of policemen and asked one of them to pet my SD and take the leash and walk a little bit away in case that is ever needed at an accident.

Kate Farrell

Thank you! I'm excited for the next checklist too... and my next SD! Hopefully the latter is a few years off, but I look forward to raising another dog from the start with all I'm learning here as we go in this generation.

Rita

Hi Laura, I have a quick question for you about training to become a SD trainer. I believe you trained with Atlas Assistance Dogs, so would they be your organization of choice or do you have others that you recommend? I am a certified trainer, have been working with Service dogs by volunteer training for a local nonprofit for about 4 years, and would like to expand my certification. Thanks! Rita

DOGGY•U

Hey Rita - it's really hard to say what program is best for each person. I think what Atlas has to offer is a really nice network of people and resources, but if you're already in service dogs, some of the courses may be pretty basic (but good reminders!). I would also check out Cooperative Paws certification program. If there's specific skills you're looking to learn, I'd also look at Donna Hill's courses and Delta Tails.

Rita

Thank you!!
