Medical Alert/Behavior Interruption Training Progression (Patreon)
Content
Hey Everyone!
I was scrolling through some old video and came across a series of short videos I shot of the progression of the alert/behavior interruption behavior that we taught a psych service dog I was helping an owner-trainer with. The ultimate goal here was to have the dog alert/interrupt the behavior of leg shaping. This video is by no means a complete progression, but it does highlight a couple things I wanted to share.
You'll see the pup when he's young has a very weak "boop" (or nose target) behavior and as he grows the behavior strengthens significantly, which is what the handler needed to interrupt the precursor to her specific episodes. You'll also see briefly how we transfer from a target (lid) to a taped on knee target, to no knee target, while continuing to accurately target the upper thigh.
One missing link is how after we put the behavior on cue "leg", we then transferred that cue to the leg shaking, the ultimate behavior we wanted the alert for. Once we had that we spent a ton of time generalizing the behavior to different body positions, scenarios, locations etc.
If you're interested in how we strengthened the nose target behavior, or any of this training sequence, feel free to submit it as a question!
