Would like to hear more about socialization training. People say you should socialize your dog, but I realize that does not mean introducing them to every dog they meet. If I could go back and do it better - how would that socialization process go. Does it just mean expose them to different things or what? And some things get mixed reviews, like loud noises/fireworks. Some say expose them (socialize) when young, and other trainers told me it would could cause them PTSD for life, even if they were socialized.

Thanks for the question Tim! This is a good one and I'm going to do a talking head video on it either this week or next so everyone can see the answer!

Is there a Facebook group so we can all talk? Or is that next level up? Thanks! I’m planning on joining next level too more than likely 🙂

Laura, this was SO helpful. A lot of my error has been to try settling him when he starts to mouth and bite but I think the “distanced” tug and chase toys will give him a way to get it out of his system without my skin and clothes being involved, lol. The more noise I make in response to his bites, the more he seems to bite, for sure. And he’s half Aussie, so I do expect that some heel nipping and herding tendencies might stick around 🤪 Thanks again!!!!

Hey Melody - I don't run a facebook group and don't have plans for that at this time. I actually try to stay off social media as much as possible, outside of my business, (I only use facebook on my laptop) because I have one of those personalities where I can't control my social media use well lol! But let me think about what you said to see if there's some sort of way to incorporate more person to person interaction. Right now I just don't have the physical time to monitor a facebook group, but I'm so glad you're enjoying my patreon content!!

Yes - calmness in the face of puppy biting/mouthiness is your best friend. In fact, any time you can physically mirror the behavior you want out of your puppy, the better off you will be. Most recently, a client said, "how can you stay calm when he's doing that!" and I said, "simple, being upset/angry/loud doesn't help the situation at all, and in-fact makes it worse for me. Deep breath, respond to the situation in front of you". Also, it's helpful to see all behavior as neutral and not "good" or "bad" in these situations. Puppies bite. Biting is not inherently a bad behavior. In fact, for an aussie, it's a perfectly acceptable behavior if you have to move a 600 lb cow yourself. So instead of prescribing a moral value to the behavior I just look at it like, okay this is a normal behavior, but it's not one I like towards humans so what is my puppy trying to tell me right now? What do they need? An outlet for their energy? Help calming down with a food toy and a nap? It's all just information (albeit from a baby shark ;))

Laura totally get what your saying. If you ever need helps or volunteers just let me know. I have a good bit of downtime due to my health crap so I could always help out if wanted. Thanks so much for everything!!! I’m so happy to have found you!!!!
