This month, as mentioned in last month's Q&A, I'm excited to offer two livestreams!

The first will be for all DoggyU Community members and will be the monthly Q&A Livestream. The second will be for Inner Circle and Elite members and will be the following week where I'm going to be talking about selecting a puppy based on puppy testing, and what I'm looking at when reviewing standardized testing video, as well as what tests you can do if you're selecting your puppy live. This will be geared towards service dog prospects, but will be helpful for anyone choosing a puppy with video review/puppy testing. I have permission to use the real testing videos that I reviewed to help select a puppy for a client a few months ago. More info and a link to that will be coming soon and appear on the feed for Inner Circle and Elite members. If this interests you, you can upgrade your membership at any time.

Okay, back to the original livestream. This month's DoggyU Community Q&A livestream will be on Wednesday October 18th @4:30pm EST.

Reminder that we are now doing our livestreams via Zoom and I will post the YouTube link after the event with a brief summary of the topics covered. Participants will be muted so please put follow-up questions that pop up during the Zoom in the chat box. Reminder that questions should be related to the topic I am currently covering, as I've run over my hour pretty much every time in the last few months :)

The cut-off for submitting questions is 48 hours prior to the Zoom (Sunday, Oct. 16th) so that I have time to prepare. Please limit questions to 1 per person so I have time to answer them within the hour. Questions should be general enough that I don't need to know your specific dog/behavior to answer the question (this also allows everyone to benefit from the question). If you're looking for more specific feedback on your dog, be sure to join the Elite membership level for video review of your training.

Please post your questions for livestream below in the comments! See you next week!

Excited to hear about the puppy selection live stream. The Monks of New Skete have a book that speaks to this a bit, but my question is how useful is that vs breed. Assuming you are comparing "one breed" I can see selection criteria being important, but it seems the selection criteria effectively weeds out most mixed breeds. So the selection criteria/tests seem pretty effective. Look forward to learning more about this process.

My question is where should a service dog be placed if the handler is showering in public? I do my physical therapy at a gym and do I leave her outside the shower stall alone? Or get her a raincoat and take her in? (Funny but 🤷🏻‍♀️nothing else seems safe to me?) We are not ready yet, just planning ahead and I’m stumped. Thanks so much!!!!

This can be super tricky! So I can definitely discuss this and other tricky situations on what to do with an SD

DOGGY•U

So we will be reviewing dogs within a litter in this particular livestream, as well as dogs across litters but the same breed. But everything we talk about will be applicable to any situations where you're evaluating a puppy. Excited to have you there!

I was hoping for some advice about moving away from a couple things that I know are slightly adversive to him. One example is around marking when on a walk. He's a 11 month old intact male (who belongs to the guide dog program), so it's definitely an uphill battle here. Right now he'll stop to mark and I'll keep walking, abd when I get to the end of the leash I try to pull him back onto all fours as gently as will work. However, this still means he's getting yanked around by the neck (or face 😬). The other specific example is that I'm still scooping him up whenever he gets into trouble and 'leave it' isn't working. He doesn't really have any shredding outlets because he's always tried to eat any thing after he shreds it. He doesn't seem to hate being picked up (we've kind of never stopped since he was a puppy and it's included plenty of treats), but I'm sure he doesn't love it, especially when he's always being taken away from something fun. Any thoughts or advice appreciated!

I realize that sneaking two examples into one question 😂 feel free to address either or neither or just the topic more broadly. The things going on with the elite and inner circle members look really exciting!

Thanks everyone for your questions! Questions are now closed. See you Tuesday!
