The questions we want to ask is:

How Can I Explain This Better To My Dog?

How can we use props, known behaviors, and changes in environment and location to help our dog understand what we're asking?

Big thank you to Eve who allowed me to do this session live with your all!

And also, this was an experiment to try out a different format than I typically do for these special topic lives. Let me know what you think about this type of live training demo and if you want to see more of them. Tell me the good, and the bad so I can see how I want to include live training into future sessions.

Balance Pad I Used

Cheaper one that might be a good substitute?

Happy Training Ya'll!

The demonstration stuffed animal goat made my day. I used to have one when I went to college; it stayed in my backpack, and he came out to do DPT when I was alone. I didn't know PSD existed back then. My dog is 80lb, so the livestock feeder pan can't bear her weight. Then, it will bend when she stands on it. Do you have a fancier version that teaches dogs to pivot? Thanks! I am lazy, lol I know I can be handy, but it’s easier to have a thing is at higher quality

Hey Emily! So what I've done in the past is have people put two buckets one on top of eachother to stabilize. When I was first starting out though, I just built a small platform with scrapwood and stapled yoga mat to the top to make it nonslip. You could also gluegun yoga mat to an upturned metal bowl. Hope that gives you some ideas!

I loved this format, it helped me visualize the goal in a way that makes sense both to me and the dog. Thank you, I hope you try it again.

I have been having stand issues with Scooby and once her vet has released her from almost bed rest rest, we will be watching this again and going for it. She has bruised hind quarters from being attacked by a storm door. I was a bad momma. Not paying full attention when I let her in and her long line that was tangled and wrapped around a post pulled the door shut on her. Other than that she has a natural square sit and down. And sit is her default pose. When I ask for stand she goes down, then sit then down then does a little butt wiggle. Not understanding. She is sore for now and on pain meds so I will not be asking her to use those muscles. And with the pain meds she is happy to snooze in her senior doggy bed and on the couch. When I rescued her a year and a half ago I wasn't sure if she needed it at 8yo. So that is what i got for the crate and have added an elevated dog bed. She moves back and forth between them, the couch, and my bed, if I am in it.

She is healing. She is now all about scratches. I don't think I tried bread crumbs. To start her on a new thing I use bread crumbs. The one thing I believe she would try to stand on her head for. What a visual :-)
