Hey Folks!

So this week's video is a response to a comment I got on one of my videos. In this video I talk about on-duty vs. off-duty behavior, as well as the method of training I use to empower my service dog to make decisions on my behalf. Hopefully you find this video valuable as you navigate the balance of life with a service dog.

Remember, we need to meet their needs if we are going to ask them to meet ours <3

Best,
Laura (and my feral woods-Koolie, CoolWhip)

This was so helpful and insightful. I think some of the ways I’ve struggled with Charlie can be fixed/shifted by this mindset.

I assume succession planning is training a replacement pup/dog. My girl is over 9yo and I have been wondering if I am up to the task of training a second dog. I do have mobility/balance issues on some days and don't get much more done than just going over stationary for me stuff that she already knows.

Succession planning would be researching, planning for, and transitioning to a new dog. Thinking about my current needs, what's realistic for me (like you mentioned - is training another dog a possibility while I'm still working my current dog), planning for how you will manage relationships within the household etc. I think this process is sometimes overlooked and can take years of planning. For example, I started planning for Whip's replacement when she was about 5 years old. This may be overkill, but the process of acquiring the right prospect can literally take years.

This is so good. Your dogs are GREAT! I hope and pray that my dog will be like them as he grows up… (Which is why I follow you and watch all your videos LOL)

Love this video Laura! I think this is brilliantly said and helps so much
