Della Monroe

my 9yo who cannot be my service dog but I have been practicing training knew shake very well when I rescued her. I have been working on getting her to nose boop instead of paw an offered hand. I think I may have found the way for me and her to make that transfer.

Congrats Della! I have some video on here of Jake and Whip using a nose touch to learn this one that might be helpful as well!

In Ontario all that's required is you identify with a disability and you have a doctors note. This is from the trainer I work with in person below, whose been training for a long time: According to the AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) According to the AODA’s Customer Service Standards, ONE of TWO conditions must apply for your animal to be considered a service animal: 1. the animal is easily identifiable as relating to your disability (for example, it is a guide dog or other animal wearing a vest or harness) 2. you can provide documentation from a regulated health professional confirming the animal is required due to a disability Our teams have both to hopefully allow easier access where needed. But our rules are difference province to province.

Thanks for answering my question on sniffing! I already do some of the up down game and walking around before we go in. I think I may just need to get more excitement out before hand. He hides his energy well and it comes out in exciting situations. In the future I’m definitely going to pay more attention to how much focus he’s able to give to me. Thanks again!

Just finished watching. Thanks for your thoughtful answers. Your explanations are easy to understand & kind of uplifting too. I love how you approach your answers with an attitude of "The struggle is real, my friend, and you're going to be ok." These videos are super helpful, especially the monthly Q&As.

DOGGY•U

Glad it was helpful! It sounds like you're on the right track. Perhaps periodic check-ins throughout the store with your pattern games might be a good way to gauge his focus.

DOGGY•U

the struggle is SO. REAL. 😂. Trainers are not immune. And it will still all be okay. :) Thanks for the reply!
