Hey Folks!

Cooperative play can be such an important part of building a relationship with your dog.

This week on the channel I have a video with my friend Casey Van Ness! I met Casey the year I brought CoolWhip home. We took foundations agility classes taught by Casey, and she was such a talented trainer, I decided to hire her as a contractor for my pet dog training business, LEDR Dog. She quit her day job, and the rest is history!

It's been 7 years, and now Casey and I work together helping owner-trainers train their service dogs. Casey starts the dogs, and I come in later in the process to run CGC testing, and then move on to training public access and tasks. Casey is a joy to work with and is incredibly knowledgeable about toy play mechanics. I hope you enjoy this video!

And let me know in the comments if you like seeing other trainers occasionally featured on the channel. I have a couple fun collaborations planned, and I love having the opportunity to highlight other talented trainers in the dog training field.

As always, it really helps my channel/ the algorithm when you:

Happy Training Ya'll!

I am happy t o watch a wide range of trainers. Who knows what tid-bit might enrich my interaction with my pup.

Love that mindset Della! There’s so much to learn from different trainer’s styles and techniques!

I learned a lot on toy play from Casey a few years back....I also took an online class with Shade Whitesell through FDSA.....toy play is so much more than throwing a tennis ball for your dog! It can be an important tool for communication and training dog sports along with it just being fun for the dog....a way to build your relationship! My puppy Patty is well on her way with learning these skills....the biggest thing missing is bringing the toy back. So over the Winter I will be trying a few different approaches to teaching her. She does sometimes bring toys in my direction but it's not consistent and I would not really call it a retrieve. She seems confused, so I think I just need to break it down and clarify it for her. I know she will find the fun, her brain is still learning and developing all the basics.

I love Shade! I think teaching a formal retrieve, plus a lot of two-toy game in hallways and other areas where there's limited options but to bring it back is probably a good place to start!

I don't know if he would do it, but I would absolutely LOVE to see a pairing between you and my other favorite trainer Robert Cabral, I think you two would have a lot to share and talk about, and it would be quite interesting!
