Hey DOGGY•Uers!

If you think I can't talk for a full hour on just 2 questions, you are mistaken LOL!

Here is the link for this month's livestream replay! In this livestream we talk about:

- Guiding and Leading Tasks (what's the difference)

- Foundation skills for guiding and leading tasks that you can train prior to your dog being cleared for guiding work

- What is Premack Principle and how might we apply it to two different SDIT situations

- Brief foray into how I train neutrality for service dogs

Enjoy!

And remember we're doing a Deep Dive on Wednesday @3pm ET, 12pm PT on How to Become a Service Dog Trainer. I think this topic will also be helpful for those looking to hire a service dog trainer and what to look for.

Happy Training!

If I do all the guide/leading foundation stuff now (stop at curbs, find a seat/exit/door, walk in the middle of the sidewalk, get used to wearing the harness, etc), how long after he is cleared for mobility before you think before he's trained enough to pass a blindfold test? I'm committed to working on this for 45+ minutes a day for as long as it takes, but I've never done anything like this before so I'll probably make mistakes and have to re-train things.

So, in guide dogs, you don't test everything at once. First, you test just walking a really simple sidewalk outside with curbs and obstacles. Then you work towards doing that with more obstacles in a more populated area with outside stairs. Then after that you start thinking about indoor work, indoor blindfold, and then you think about "final" blindfold which includes all the things, like finding a seat, finding in and outside, stairs etc. And before you do any of that under blindfold, you do it with what's called "occluders" which means you limit your vision but you don't take it away all together. You also want to have someone following you to make sure you don't get too hurt. I had a pretty big bruise from falling right before my wedding on a blindfold LOL!

This was great, thank you.
