Domino Redesign (Patreon)

Okay so fun fact about me, I absolutely do not like the design of the castle of Domino 😭

I don't know why but it reminds me of a uterus if you flip it hahaha, the colours are also weird for a castle I think. Especially for a castle that is supposedly from the most powerful planet in the Magical Dimension. It doesn't seem daunting or imposing to me, but more kitschy.

So I decided that for Embers to Inferno Domino would get a little makeover! Okay, more like a complete transformation 😂 For now I have these two illustrations done.

The first one being the front of the castle of course! I didn't like how the original castle felt abandoned even in its prime, it seemed so far away from everything and looked almost isolated from its people. I decided to change this by adding a bit more life by including some extra buildings on the sides. Perhaps some nobles live there or some of the staff who work in the castle! I also added some dragons flying around, because how cool would it be if there were actual dragons in Domino??

A problem I encountered was that I had no idea how to draw a castle hahaha, so I made this using photobashing! I basically used multiple pictures of castles, rocks, mountains etc. and photoshopped them together until I had a basic structure. After, I painted over everything and added some lighting and voila! It only took me around 2 hours.

The second illustration is sort of like a courtyard, or a connection between different wings of the castle. This was made by literally just painting on top of a picture lol. Didn't even use multiple photos for this one so you might come across it on Pinterest one day 😂 I changed some things of course but it was already almost exactly what I envisioned for this scene! Sadly architecture is not my strong suit. I wish I was good at it but I often times don't even know where to start when it comes to elaborate things like castles :') So I use any trick/cheat I can and make it work haha!
