The big question this episode was, "How do I draw a goddamn forest from the air?" Basically, how do I draw a million trees without it taking ages 😭

In episode 16 I had one single forest drawing, and I copied and pasted it while mirroring it and transforming it a bit lol; nothing too difficult, basically.

But in this episode I knew I'd have to draw a forest with mountains from many different angles due to the sparring taking place in the air. People would notice if every scene from the air had the same background. After some research, I found my answer! Photobashing.

I've talked about this technique before, but this is actually the first time I used it to this extent (since I work ahead with these episodes, the timeline might not make sense for you haha, sorry!).

All trees you see are real photographs! Mountains aren't too difficult to draw, so I winged that part. Now I just had to make it all look seamless and get the colours right. It took me a bit, but I was very happy with the end result! Even with the learning curve, it took so much less time to create this using a new technique rather than sit down and draw a forest from scratch. It's also just something I don't really enjoy painting; it's too natural and random. I struggle with that in my art a lot, making something look natural and not as if someone painted it. And the most important part is to have fun with this webtoon for me!

After some research, it turns out this technique is not considered "cheating" at all within the artist industry! It's even praised as a skill on its own. I can't wait to use it more in future works.

When I had my drawing class in art school, my illustration teacher actually mentioned this a lot. Same with my actual drawing class teacher. They all said this is a lot more common than a lot of people like to give on/credit to. Glad you were able to do it and make it a little simpler! 😆 it looks great ❤️

Just as you said, you should be having fun and for that I absolutely do not care what technique you use or if you make it easier for yourself. Why wouldn’t you if you know how? The final product always looks brilliant so why would we judge the way you achieve it? That forest looks incredible. I can’t wait for the next ep Fee, and I wish you a great day 😊
