The first song I ever heard by Nicki was Itty Bitty Piggy. And I loved it. People used to ask me 'why do you even like her music?' For me at that time and during that era, the few female rappers that were out were for the most part just slutted out in their lyrics. Don't get me wrong the nasty lyrics have their place but it seemed like every female rapper was trying to out nasty each other. When Nicki stepped on the scene, she did have that, but she had so much MORE. She wasn't 1-dimensional and still isn't. Plus I just loved how she carried herself. Especially when she did that interview with the pink hive wig where she talked about how when men make demands their bosses but when a woman does she's a bitch. Her Pink Friday album dropped during my undergrad [wasn't sure if I was gonna graduate or not] and no cap that album got me through it. She had party tracks but she had some deep tracks as well if you really listened. I wasn't even aware Beam Me Up Scotty wasn't streamable all this time. I still remember going to her MySpace page way back then to just listen to her music. I'm 34 now and still rock with Nicki HEAVY!

I feel like a lot of the new girls’ branding scheme is to make songs that go viral on TikTok and I imagine it’s a cute bag but it’s unsustainable... cough Saweetie cough Cardi. The only one we’ve seen successfully freestyle is Meg and she’s dating Pardison Fontaine who has been writing for Cardi B since Invasion of Privacy... for some reason I feel like that “These girls f*cking for raps what a disgrace” bar was about Meg :/ we haven’t seen any interaction between them since Hot Girl Summer and that came out 2019...
