1) Before 'Freedom Summer,' A Wave Of Violence Largely Forgotten (Ben Greenberg) 8/5/14

The infamous murders of three civil rights activists in Mississippi (and collusion by the local police department and KKK to cover it up) was covered by the press, but it overshadowed a lot of other violence that needs to be remembered.
