Reading List #7 (Patreon)

1. The Making of an American Nazi Luke O'Brien

This long article attempts to make sense of The Daily Stormer and it's racist creator, a white guy who once fancied himself an "anti-racist vegan".

2. The Impact of Colorism on Historically Black Fraternities and Sororities (Patience Denece Bryant)

One of the personal video topics I did for someone this month involved the history of black fraternities and sororities, and this detailed study provides context for colorism within black greek life.

3. The Muslim Overpopulation Myth (Krithika Varagur)

"....like France, Germany, the U.K., and the Netherlands. Although Muslims make up less than 10 percent of the total population in each of these countries, perceived overpopulation has been at the center of anti-immigration discourse."

4. A Week After Virginia Election Sweep, Democrats Join Republicans for More Bank Deregulation (David Dayen)

While everyone was predictably excited that democrats "struck back" against Trump during a series of important elections, these sneaky politicians kept on being sneaky. "Democrats scored a major victory over Trumpism in Virginia just last week, winning the governor’s race and potentially wrestling control of the heavily gerrymandered House of Delegates. Having Virginia’s senators engineer a bank deregulation bill days later sits uncomfortably with that triumph of the resistance.

5. Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google are Destroying Jobs (Alyona Minkovski)

Sure we're all excited about the fun and fast services coming our way. But it comes with a major cost. "A recent study says [the job market is] going to get a lot worse, with automation causing the loss of up to 7.5 million retail jobs and affecting as many as 47 percent of people in the industry."

6. No One Knows How Many American Women Die From Causes Related to Pregnancy or Childbirth (Robin Fields and Joe Sexton)

7.  A Guide to Fantasy and Science Fiction Made for Black People, by Black People (Ashley Nakadi)

After recently going on a rant about not having enough black fantasy and sci-fi fiction to indulge in, this post fell into my lap.
