This video is apart of an ongoing series investigating the history of black wealth being acquired and/or stolen in America.

After the news of the college admissions scandal broke, I couldn't help but to think about all the ways that the American meritocracy- or so called American dream- is a myth for most black children.  It also made me think of a recent clip of a Breakfast Club interview (one of the most widely listened to black radio shows) where none of the three hosts knew that the median black wealth is approaching zero in 2053. Our influencers and gatekeepers love talking about wealth and flexing, but seem to have little to say about the realities of poverty for black children-- and the importance of coming together as a community to provide resources for each other.

I don't think black influencers or celebrities even know how to share resources. It pains me everytime a rapper gives away turkeys for holidays like they're Nino Brown instead of maybe hosting a workshop on financial literacy or a job fair, teaching trades or skills to their youthful fanbase.
