Hey guys!

After falling down a Love is Blind rabbit hole thanks to twitter, I wanted to do a somewhat less serious video about black women's desirability and dating habits by looking at a few dating shows and researching marriage and dating data. I have already been researching black women in reality tv for a longer project but this meshed perfectly with a Beducated sponsorship (woo!).

From Flavor of Love to Love is Blind... how have black women fared on dating shows? "Black love" is not an important term to everyone, but I have always rooted for it and hope to see healthier and inclusive versions of it in media. I get tired of seeing arguments about black men and women's marriage rates, black women's desirability, dating bus drivers, $200 dates, hypergamy, gold diggers, interracial dating, etc. What are black women facing when it comes to dating?  I also wanted to explore those topics as well by contextualizing reality dating shows and providing a bit of history. Not only have they been historically racist to black women, but they have grown from fun game show gimmicks to serious commitments-- why do people enjoy them and how did we get here? How have reality shows simply reflected the truth and how have they distorted it? Should black women settle? I edited this video, which will be published on youtube for the public on Friday. Make sure you like, share, and comment when it goes live! <3

Captions and video chapters added by Friday.

While I am currently refining Lexual Does The 90s for a Fall premiere, I hope you enjoy this Summer's upcoming content. I will continue to explore more facets of pop culture from a black woman's POV as well as do some illuminating general black history videos! Enjoy the early upload.

I really enjoyed this! I grew up watching a lot of dating shows and have fallen down the wormhole of YouTube dating content. It’s entertaining and disheartening to watch at the same time as a young black woman
