Deep Cut #2: Texas, The Culture Wars, & King of The Hill (Patreon)

There were many ways to approach King of The Hill (259 episodes!), and this video could have easily been 12 hours. But looking specifically at the show's connections to its time period and Lexual Does The 90s is the main focus. What was Texas like in the 1990s, and how did Ann Richards become governor? How did George W Bush come into power during this decade while his father lost the presidency? How were bipartisan politics impacting the 90s conservatives like Hank Hill? Why was Dale Gribble a perfect depiction of 90's conspiracy theorists we'll talk about in episode 6? How were minorities and women in Texas represented in Arlen, a town bristling with contradictions and dry humor? Enjoy!

Extra Credit Assignment: While watching, think of the ways you can connect this video to episodes 1 and 2 of the main series. There will also be ties to future episodes that you may not catch until later. :)

Unbelievably, I found a collection of KOTH episodes that you can watch if you're interested here. I recommended Hulu in the video but this archive of episodes is freeeeee!
