This was such a fascinating page to write. Normally I have the most fun with the art, and the lettering can sometimes feel like a bit of a drag, but this page was the other way around.

I've always been intrigued by how Betty and General Ross would respond if they ever found out Banner's secret. Betrayal, hurt, anger-- these are all the basis for compelling drama! This page was huge fun to script after many pages of green monsters hitting each other. Two adults having a conversation generates much more compelling dialogue than 'Hulk will smash'.

I agree with you and think the tension is a uniquely under explored idea. I will also say that as much as I love the transformation stuff, I also do genuinely enjoy the plot you give your stories. You’re both a great artist, and a great story teller.

Manic

That's kind of you to say so. The mission has always been to produce quality stuff that genuinely entertains as well as titilate. Not sure I always live up to that-- but I try!

Hey manic, bit of an unrelated question. A good while ago you did a tawn storyline, and in it her and a couple of other manicverse characters are chasing a criminal through time. On the last pages you introduced some she brute characters but you changed jenna’s father to a woman. Were you planning on doing a she brute version of the whole general ross, red hulk, thing? Or just a coincidence and no relation.

Manic

Oh man, Time Chasers! I really need to finish that! I put it to one side but it was good. Probably I'll get back to it next year after I clear the current Bazuumba, Cavegirl, Altawoman and Savages projects.

Thomas Petersson

Do you have anything planned with Urtha - my personal favourite?

Manic

Not at present!

General Ross saying, “milksop,” really sells this scene. I love it when he says it in the comics.

Manic

Tango and Cash reference? I've not seen that film since I was in my teens-- what's the reference?

Manic

Yeah, I'm trying to humanise all these characters and not make them caricatures, but I still want to slip in some of their stereotypical mannerisms to keep it real.

Ahh, I thought that might be it. I used to have a part time job as a barman and one of the best ales we served was called 'Fubar'. I googled the term and was amused to learn it's meaning.

The Female Mutant Universe (Parody Universe) 18+

So yeah it was always 80s slang like I thought. Yeah hands down the 80s was one of the best decades of American history. It had the best cartoons, the best movies and the best women. My best woman will see this month upcoming. Can’t wait to see Betty again with your new style of art this June!!!

Is it just me, or does General Ross have parallels with Moby-Dick's Captain Ahab?
