Hello all!

In the patron feedback responses I recently shared, I highlighted the general need and request for an easier method to search through the relatively enormous asset library now that we've crossed the 8-year benchmark.

I therefore present you with: the Asset Database.

This is a Google Sheet with every single asset listed by name. It is therefore easily searchable in the event that you're pretty sure you remember seeing a Frog Statue somewhere, but can't quite remember where...

I hope this helps! I will of course be updating it as new asset packs arrive. If there is any additional functionality that you think could be embedded into this Sheet please let me know! I won't pretend that asset management and Sheets and such are my forte so I am very open to suggestions on how we can further improve your experience here.

Enjoy!

The first thing I'll suggest immediately is to add a column for "theme". Sure, you might think "frog statue", but what if you just want to see "frog assets"? Like if I search "chair", maybe I wanted like "throne" or something. "regal" or "royal" would be a theme. I'd also then add a column for "type". E.g. "Statue", "sword", "armor", "clothing". You can get as specific or general as you want - it's your data. but the more specific you make it, the easier it'll be for people to look through more easily. Maybe even "type" and "subtype". So type "armor" and subtype "boots" would give you just boots and not shoes. Or type "weapon" and subtype "sword" would be all swords. Though technically just filtering on "subtype: sword" would do that too. Think about it like this - "what would help me find things faster if this were someone else's data?" or "what types of search filters am I used to seeing on other sites, like Amazon or Ebay?" Additional examples: Books could be under "Academic" or "Literature". You could have a type for "scale" and then subtype "city", "battle", "region", etc. Instead of "notes" (because that's FAR too generic and note easily searchable), try "Setting". "Curse of Strahd" is a setting. "Eberron". "Feywild". "Shadowfell". All settings. Even better for "Curse of Strahd" and "Lost Mines of Phandelver" is to do another column for "Adventure" (since D&D Beyond and WotC call those "adventure books"). You could even separate all assets that are part of one adventure or another into a separate sheet (aka a new tab at the bottom). You could have all "Curse of Strahd" under one of those tabs, LMoP, etc. I know that doesn't help the "I want boots from this list but it doesn't search the other tabs", but it's a start. Besides, if I want something like boots or a cape, I probably want a very specific look. LMoP may not be the look I want.

Lots of ways to think about it, just throwing ideas at the wall so you can see what sticks. Tons of good ideas out there on the web from sites you probably use yourself. Don't be afraid to use their ideas!

Thank you for your input! I naturally want the resource to be as helpful as possible, but also need to keep the maintenance of it relatively minimal if I'm to add the regular updating of it to the list of many other such resources I facilitate. For stuff like themes, is there a way that you imagine that functioning differently than if someone were to simply search by a term that a file name or pack name would get hit by anyways? To use your example, someone searching for "throne" would hit all of the assets named as such or likewise searching "royal" would obviously ping the Royalty Assets, etc.

Here's an example of something I'd want for a Theme that wouldn't have a File or Pack name: Tavern - Wine barrels. Casks. Beds. Tables. Chairs. You get the point. For example - if I want a table, I have to search table and then see it under "Academy Assets, Dungeon Assets, Food Assets, Furniture Assets, etc. Why can't I just have "Tavern" as the theme and then boom, all the tables are right there with their pack names and file names. No need to Ctrl+F (or use Google Sheets' advanced search to match on case, since "table" will also match "Notable") and hit enter a thousand times to see every entry for table. It's also funny because you have a "Tavern Assets 1" (only Tavern Assets) but it wouldn't do at all for building a tavern. There's no Wine Barrels or Casks. Though a problem I just thought about with themes is if something matches multiple themes (aka needing a multi-select box, which is a bit more tricky to figure out filtering for but is doable). Just bringing up that your response "'royal' would obviously ping the Royalty Assets" doesn't cover that if I want a table for my tavern, there's no way to break this list down to just table options, other than ctrl+f or the column filter, which still doesn't give me exactly the same experience. Just spit balling ideas. Thanks for giving your thoughts as well. As far as "need to keep the maintenance of it relatively small" - I mean... you have thousands of assets (27600 and change, to be more specific). That's like saying "I want to have my cake and eat it too". All that to say - this is a great start, I just want to give ideas that people don't always think about.

I know this is a tremendous amount of work, thanks for creating it. These lists are always complicated to create and track. It's awesome that you did the big step of putting these in one place.

Would it be easy enough to add the page numbers or adventure name from One Shot Wonders to the notes column?

Hey Joe! The last installment of the One Shot Wonders map packs comes out later this month--as a part of that release I'll be packaging up the whole massive set and organizing them by adventure name as well. This database here is for assets only.
