This is one of my favorite film series. My favorite characters have always been Pippin, Merry, Eowin and Gimli. I think just like How To Train Your Dragon 2, that you have to watch the 2 sequels when you have watched the other movies voted from the last polls, that would be the natural thing to do, no need for votes on that. 🙂

our first fish was named pippin and our first dog was named frodo <3 you'll love this series!

Oh, I looooovvvvve these movies so much. I never read it as a kid, but after the first movie came out, I devoured the books in 6 weeks. Then I had to wait sooooo long for the following 2 movies. Genius storytelling. As a writer myself, its hard to even comprehend the depths to which Tolkien understood this world he created.

OMG, you’ve never seen these? Well, there’s alway a first time—and WE get the spoils! Please tell me you’re watching the extended versions. Yes, they’re longer and the films are already long. You Will Not Notice. But the extra content & context will make a difference. Here’s an important tip: there’s a site where you can access an on-line map of middle-Earth. Being able to see where you are can make things a lot less confusing. It’s www.theonering.com I’ve been a Tolkien nerd for 56 years, and know the deep lore of Tolkien’s legendarium pretty well. While I’m far from alone in this madness—I bet you’ll have plenty of fans, and maybe a few fellow Tolkien nerds, amongst your membership, we’re pretty united in love for this glorious story. (There is division between those who only accept the book and those who also appreciate the movie but I figure they are less likely to comment on movie reactions). Enjoy!

yk I’ve been so normal watching ts I didn’t even need to breathe into a paper bag or nothin. love how much you cracked up at Gandalf and his number one opp, Pip. “one does not simply” is so classic 😭 the way this is the best and most quotable trilogy in human history is CRAZY. also, all the tidbits we get of Bilbo’s adventure relates to The Hobbit series, which you could also watch if you wanna but understandable if you’d want a break after these LONG ASS films. mvp Bill the horse 🙏🏻 SO GLAD you picked up on how amazing the scores are in this one, they only get better in the next two!! TIMELESS ost’s fr. Sean Bean survive more than one movie/series challenge ??? Gollum is a lil freak but we do love him 🫶🏻 Frodo getting stabbed not once but TWICE in the first movie man lil guy CANNOT catch a break 😭😭 hopefully you’re noticing the tropes that other fantasy stories have based things off of (Aragorn as the poster boy for the angsty brooding action guy, Pip and Merry for THE comedic duo, the ring basically inspiring horcruxes in hp, this being the bible for every fantasy based tv show, film, game and book released since - Tolkien really DID the damn thing for the genre) as these go on bc it is so cool recognising things when you’ve not seen where they come from before 🥲 RIP Gandalf the goat himself gone but never forgotten. cannot WAIT to see what you think of the others!! 🤩🤩🤩

I love seeing people react to these films. I'm from New Zealand and lived close to where a lot of it was filmed. We would see all the people dressed up and many of the sets built. Don't think our tiny country knew how huge these films would end up while it was being filmed lol

Also Ian McKellen aka Gandalf is 86 and very much alive, but the guy who plays Saruman; Christopher Lee has died.

Heather

Ian mcKellen is still alive, I meant the character in this movie died - Gandalf 🫶🏻

You did get that Galadriel was an original (and continuous) bearer of one of the three elvish rings, as introduced at the start of the movie, right? She was Arwen’s grandmother—Elrond was Arwen’s father. Galadriel was accounted a Noldorin elf, born in Valinor and migrated to middle-Earth during the great Noldorin rebellion. She was born under the light of the Two Trees, a quasi-magical thing that illuminated the world and the spirit. Such beings possessed enormous power comparatively speaking as there were very few in middle-Earth (most stayed in Valinor which is where the Valar wanted them. The brightest star in the sky was Ëarendil, which corresponds to Venus when the planet is close to the Earth and roughly at the same declination. In the Tolkien mythos, it is a Silmaril originally set aloft as a sign of hope for the peoples of middle-Earth. Now about them wizards . There’s a lot I could say. It I’d rather not spoil things. After you’ve seen The Two Towers…

will probably pause the next movies on the poll just to get the next two LOTR movies up :D DYING to see what's coming!!!!!

JayPerView

Love these films, they’re so well done. Beautiful sets, props, score, and of course story (thank you Tolkien). Can’t wait for the next one, this trilogy is amazing.

Fun fact: Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) loved his horse so much while working on these movies he purchased them (not sure if it's a he or her)! He even purchased Arwen's horse and gave them to Arwen's stunt double because she fell in love with her horse!

You'll probably catch flak for that Dumbledore reference. Just a friendly heads up lol. Gandalf first appeared in The Hobbit, a prequel to LOTR, way back in 1937. JK Rowling herself wasn't born until 1965. It's not just Harry Potter that was inspired by LOTR, it's virtually all fantasy written in the last century. LOTR may seem to be full of tired fantasy tropes (wizards, elves, dwarves etc) but that's because it literally popularized those tropes. Author JRR Tolkien was a professor of ancient languages and even helped compile the Oxford English dictionary. He created multiple fictional languages including Dwarvish, two forms of Elvish, and the Black Speech of Mordor. These were full languages that you could study and translate into real world ones. He decided to build a story around these languages to give them some use and purpose. The amount of world building in LOTR is crazy. In addition to the languages, Tolkien wrote thousands of years of histories and genealogies for all of these kingdoms and peoples. These are found in the Legendarium accompanying the books. In his words, he was setting out to create a mythology for England to rival the pantheons of Greece and Rome. He took elements of Celtic Lore, Anglo-Saxon Legend, Germanic Folklore, and Norse Mythology and synthesized them, before passing them through his own filter. For example, Elves existed in Germanic stories but they were always small, borderline evil, mischievous creatures. Tolkien is the one that made them taller, more angel-like, and proficient at archery. Tolkien didn't invent Elves, but when you think of them, you think of his version of them. Link from Zelda comes straight from Tolkien's description of Elves for example. Orcs on the other hand are something he created entirely on his own. His Catholic faith and experience in WWI also helped shape his writing. It can get lost on new viewers just how deep this world is and how inspirational it has been for so much of our pop culture.

Thank you for watching this... i needed a epic movie with Jay tonight and it was nice to find you had it :)

That's so cool! and I believe that Hobbiton is still there in New Zealand, as a tourist attraction.
