I'm actually on time for once, and not just 'well, I'm not asleep yet'. Hopefully a sign of things to come. :)

I hope you enjoy.

Mr R

Thanks for the chapter : )

Mr R

"Gaius had always thought of Marcus as an ascetic, chaste adept, completely dedicated to pursuit of magical excellence, but it turned out he had gone and sired a daughter for himself at some point in his travels. With an elf, no less! Well, he supposed this sort of thing was to be expected – few could resist the lure of carnal pleasures, after all. " Marcus has a daughter now but he did not get one the fun way. Poor guy.

Great work as always! I am really loving the depth of this world, it feels like Greyhawk or Eberron or Jack Vance’s Dying Earth, or China Mieville’s Bas-Lag, layers upon layers of history to it. I really hope you will consider writing it up as a fantasy RPG campaign setting, even if not for any specific system. I for one would be keen to buy it. Actually your previous world for Mother of Learning had the same feel to it, it is a specific strength of yours as a writer, and (I assume) RPG GM.

Yay, update! Crazy that even Gaius fell for the Elven daughter bit lmao. Though ig you've gotta be pretty moral to think other moral people really really exist.

I do spend a lot of time working on the worldbuilding on my stories. I find that just as fun as writing the story itself. :)

Thanks for the chapter and the interlude. That fight went much as I was expecting, liberating the elemental from the machine being a clear choice from the moment it was mentioned. Shame it didn't even say thank you, but things be that way sometimes. It was probably humiliated by the whole situation and that it needed saving and just wanted to be gone. Despite expecting Murphy's law to come into effect, seems the orcs were too injured and under-strength to pull something on the winners so all they could do was watch. The report of that "Diyo relic" that Marcus still knows too little about will probably cause problems later. At least it seems like Irdrith is going to have to keep her bargain, so good for Beortan then? Seeing Gaius PoV was interesting too. As expected of an ambitious politician, he can imagine anyone would lose interest in political power and assumed Marcus is up to something. That the whole apprentices things is a ploy to form his own independent faction. While Marcus is just going with the flow and searching for a new goal. Seeking the peak of magic is good, but he really needs a solid objective to pursue to stay motivated. I never expected Gaius would believe that bit about Marcus being the father though. He gonna kill her caretaker when the guy finally shows up again. Good update!
