Hello everyone!

Happy Halloween! Today I thought I'd give you the scariest thing of all...a rant about episode 50 of TYBW. Alright it's not entirely a rant, but my thoughts do kind of devolve into that over time. Still, there was a lot missing from the final episode, and the way the series ended has kind of retroactively made aspects of the anime worse, specifically the anime-exclusive subplots that seemed designed to specifically fix elements from the manga. Let's take a look...

Enjoy!

I can’t blame you, because I felt a good bit of disappointment/frustration after everything the anime did just to keep things the same at the very end. But I’ll get over it.

simple every story not perfect every answer is not gonna get answered or explained fully ive just accepted it at this point in glad ive got to experience my fav anime in all it’s light and glory

Corey Simmons

yea maybe it will get answered if we ever truly get the hell arc

BPStudio

Its an obligatory video. Anything less than perfection was gonna yield something. Im sure we are not far from a "everything chang i loved" or something

If there is nothing else, there is one thing I never hesitate to say. Its better than nothing and no one can deny that. Cannot complain about receiving this over nothing

Corey Simmons

yes man even if we got what we wanted people would’ve still wanted more we just love bleach but hopefully the hell arc does answer these questions

The ending was always going to be bittersweet, but once it was cut down to 10 episodes, I started lowering my expectations. The new content was certainly welcomed and appreciated, but when some details Kubo had shared on his platform weren't making it into the adaptation, I started getting concerned. It made me wonder whether sacrificing the theatrical release, which I was genuinely happy to experience alongside fellow Bleach fans, could have given us another episode or two to better flesh things out. The community has seemingly made it clear that Bleach is still an incredibly profitable franchise, but a small part of me wishes the main series could simply be allowed to rest. (Unpopular I know but it's my nihilistic side) The arc that shall not be named would be amazing to see, but I've always been of the mindset that if something can't be done right, why do it at all? Perhaps it's harsh to say the adaptation, or at least the final cour, wasn't done right. There was certainly plenty to appreciate, but I think many of us can agree that we've been left with more unanswered questions than expected, with little indication of whether we'll ever receive those answers. For a series with such a long history and passionate following, that just doesn't sit right with me. Bleach will always be my number one, but something interesting happened as the episodes continued to roll out. I found myself becoming less excited about the episodes themselves and more excited to see Mr. Tommo's reactions and hear his thoughts afterward. I've followed you for many years now. We've had the opportunity to chat, and I've watched you consistently put out incredible content, sometimes on an absolutely insane schedule. I genuinely couldn't be happier to support someone of your caliber. You've managed to make an experience I already loved even more enjoyable, and I think that speaks volumes about the quality of what you do.

I don’t exactly agree with everything that you said because I was happy enough with the ending. I realize I have my own big feelings about things and I’m pleased with how Kubo handled things. I was a bit put off by the take on episode 49 at first and I am sorry if I came off rude. I’ve generally enjoyed your content and I have resubscribed on Patreon and will keep it for a few months more as both an apology if there was any offense and a thanks for the work you put into the bleach content even if I don’t agree with everything. I hope you continue to do well with your channel.

My main gripes with the last cour are set ups from previous and final cour not amounting to anything much and the ending feeling as abrupt as it did in the manga to an extent - so I'm in agreement with Tommo.. It was never going to fix everything but given the set ups I was hopeful for some of the things to be fixed. Cour 1 and 2 were by far the best and the last two cours were just okay imo (barring episode 45). I still remember being ecstatic after the end of cour 2, such a welcome and much needed change but can't say I felt that with cour 3 or 4 as a whole. But if the yardstick for measurement is "we should be thankful that we even got an anime" then at that point any and all discussions can be considered trite. Thanks, Tommo. You made the 50 episodes over the last 4-5 years much more enjoyable and for that I thank you for your efforts and enthusiasm.
