Few things about Korean history that might help people understand the drama better! Goryeo was a country founded by King Taejo Wang Geon after he united three countries. This period was before the Joseon era! Also, the name ‘Korea’ that we use nowadays is known to have originated from Goryeo, which was spread out to different parts of the world via Arabian merchants. Goryeo is known to be a period where there was more gender equality. Males of this era were much freer to wear makeups (look at the 3rd prince with those thick eyeliners!) and wear extravagant accessories. Women of Goryeo actually had more sovereignty compared to those in Joseon, which is quite ironic since Joseon comes after Goryeo. People of this era valued appearance and beauty so so much. This is why the 4th price, Wang So, was treated badly. Having a big scar on a face was already a shameful thing, but a prince of the nation having it was even a bigger deal at that time. Since this drama takes place in Goryeo, not Joseon, there was no significant power disparity between the queens nor the princes. Literally any son could become the next king, unlike in Joseon where there were strict guidelines to determine the heir. Due to this, King Taejo had to marry numerous women of powerful families all around the country in order to make the country more stable and stronger (remember, Goryeo was a new country after 3 different nations were united). Hence, King Taejo ended up with 29 queens (instead of royal concubines).. this is insane 😂 Also, this inc**t thing amongst the royal family back in those days… kind of makes me feel weird as well but that’s how things used to work 😅😅 At least their mothers were different lol. Anyways, lovely reaction as always! Looking forward to the next episode hehe

I believe Goryeo was the era of art and culture development as well. The Goryeo Buddhist paintings are really renowned. Unfortunately, a lot of those paintings are in Japanese museums instead of Korean museums (because... ya know... Japanese imperialism... and war...). A lot of those paintings were lost to history.
