Yeah, Amami was being WAY to pushy, especially since it was obvious Umi was super uncomfortable about it. As for the pic - 1. Fanart is common in Japan, same as cosplay. Those don't generally get sued by the publishing companies. 2. His mom works for a publishing company (that info was skipped in the anime) so she could easily get them permission And just as an aside: have you ever seen someone in the US get sued over drawing fanart of Japanese properties? You know how much sonic porn there is? You'd assume that would be the first to go if Japanese companies were really as litigious as they are reputed to be. It's really mainly just Nintendo thats super hardcore about this stuff. and then japanese publishers also have a bad reputation because they take down a lot of piracy stuff like scanlations even if there is no legal avenue for consumption and that annoys people.

So with the art project and copyright, Maki asks his mom who works at a manga publisher if it would be ok to use the design and she said it'd be ok since it's a student project. Also since Amami ended drawing a unique pose and such, it became less of a problem.

I think she does but maybe only us as the reader knew I can’t remember exactly but it was known she didn’t actually win the draw but yeah it’s wild to see her about to drop the lore with those two there

In the manga no. I forgot if she does in the LN or WN since the show seems to be pulling from all the sources.

she does, at least in the LN. In the Light Novel she even shows the teacher the empty slip of paper while saying she drew the winning lot which she doesn't do in the anime

I understand Umi struggle with Maki because he is so patience and nice to her and she is kind of insolating him from experience a friendship with Amami or even Nina by keeping things as secret, is really telling how afraid she that Amami end up stealing her spot in the friendship with Maki. Umi wanted a genuine frienship with someone that is not looking to be close to her best friend and the moment she found it Amami end up interested in forming a friendship with the same guy
