I think the studio probably had a very specific spot that they wanted to end this episode, and ended up making the bad decisions with its run time to account for that very specific ending spot. It does definitely kinda suck that they ended up with so much reused padding in what could have been something akin to a mid-season finale, but I can see why they wanted to end it where they did.

This is going to be a bit of a complicated "distinction"; The five current magia vander represented by Cariott (Fire), Elfie (Water), Zeo (Lightning), Aarono (Light), and Ellenor (Wind). There are two additional schools of magic represented in Mercedes Caulis - Earth and Dark, and both schools hope to supplant at least one of the current magia vander. As far as what the "fifth element" is, we don't know what that is yet. It clearly has something to do with Will, and it highly likely has something to do with Wis.
