Btw, idk if you noticed but if you thought Song Yan looks kinda weird or uncanny its cause his face is a different actor then the original actor using AI. Literally listed on casting list as Actor name - Song Yan face, other Actors name - Song Yan body. There was no clear reason given as to why but it was very weird when the drama first came out.

If I remember correctly, the original actor I think got canceled for doing a gay drama and china ban gay films. So I think that's why they used another actor face to ai swap his face but still use his body because filming was already done. To call all the actors especially his scenes which mainly had the leads to come back and refilm is not doable since both leads are extremely busy especially Zhang linge the male lead who is booked with films and variety shows.

FYI, the shopkeeper that Xie Zheng "sold his essays to" actually refers to his subordinates: this was in the letter that the falcon delivered to him before (i.e "Wu and Qi have arrived at the bookshop") "Wu" and "Qi" are Xie Zheng's subordinates, so he (likely) didn't write any essay to begin with and simply asked his people to send some money his way; which is also why he said he "didn't calculate properly" just how money much he wanted them to send. So he was the stupid bloke that spent 20 taels getting the hairpin back. Also, "Xie Jiuheng" in the letter that the headmaster received was also another name of Xie Zheng's, in case that was confusing

Yes the spies on the wedding night were Changyu's aunt and uncle. We haven't seen her before and we've only seen him once so I'd be surprised if you did recognise him on sight in the dark. I loved Zheng reading out the list of items calling out the debt MAdam Song and her son owe. Little Miss rude bitch is the Magistrates daughter and he is just as spineless as Song Yan. What she doesn't realise is that people in power during these times often found themselves out of power at the drop of a hat on the emperor's whim. If they do something to offend someone or the emperor himself they can lose everything or in worst case scenarios lose their life and the lives of upto 9 generations of their family. Madam Song and to a degree her son are the very definition of Social Climbers! As soon as a bigger or better opportunity presents itself they run towards it with grasping hands and pretty compliments. The hairpin was a coming of age gift from her parents. Similar to turning 18 or 21 in the modern day, it basically means she's an adult now and of marriageable age.
