Yeah, the next thing you have to watch is End of Evangelion, which is the real final two episodes. The actual reason the last two episodes were a PowerPoint slideshow, is because they legitimately ran out of budget. End of Eva happened once Eva got popular and Anno got his full budget to redo the final two episodes.

The four movies after End Of are "Rebuild of Eva" (which is a reboot of the series in movie form). Neon Genesis Eva was written by Anno while he was going through serious bouts of depression. Rebuild is him in a much better place in life, and the Rebuild series is a lot different in many ways. Rebuild is also easier (for the most part) to understand compared to Neon Genesis. Also, if you watch the Shin Toku movies (you've watched Shin Kamen Rider), you'll notice that Anno sprinkles a lot of Eva in there, like wanting everyone to be a part of the Pluribus and whatnot.

As J Man said, think of End of Evangelion as the end of the original Evangelion show. Both the final 2 episodes and the movie are real endings to the show from different perspectives - you'll understand that once you see the movie, which chronologically takes place after episode 24. Unlike End of Evangelion which follows the same story line as episodes 1-26, the rebuild movies are alternate story lines.

You should encourage people not to say the name of what you’re watching in the comments

Ideally yeah it would be safest, but we would end up getting to a point where I have to disable comments which would be ass truly.

I completely felt the same way you did after finishing the series (like two months ago), but I was aware for the whole "artsy ending", so I expected not to get much answers (though I didn't know its because the show ran out of budget). But after watching the End of Eva, the Rebuild movies, and rewatching the series through your reactions, it did give me a new appreciation for the original series. Enjoyed the reactions, can't wait for the End Of movie.
