There were love stories about afterlife lovers under the influence of Buddhism and other religions in ancient China, while there are many media about afterlife lovers with less religious influences in modern times. Regarding to the offerings, you either dispose of them through burning or burying, or you eat them with family after the incense finished burning. Jin means gold and Yuanbao means ingot. Man means full of, and Man Di means all over the floor, Man Cang means all over the granary, and Man Wu means all over the house. So he means that they're named after his wish of having a full house, a full floor and a full granary of golden ingots.

I'm not going to survive waiting for you to get to the next episode. Lol. Also there's a joke that Yan Zheng is a human cctv. You know the hair pieces that hang on Zhang hair in the front like bangs? My husband calls them mandibles XD

Im so so exciteddddd

I also feel like with their relationship there is a crazy realization when yan zheng sees how the people on poverty and villagers live. He doesnt see wasting salt as bad because he is used to having more than enough money for salt where changyu was taught to conserve her salt. So he may seem insensitive but its bc he’s used to a “luxurious” lifestyle

The Fool

You will love the next episodes even more.

The guy Zheng was sparring with was General He, who has been mentioned a couple of times before that he is currently located near Lin'an. I think Zheng just recognised Changyu's fighting style as very high level. --- In episode 1 when Changyu is walking the pigs home she is stopped by a Mr Li who wants to reserve half a pig for Yixiang restaurant. In episode 2 a guy shows up at the her home to collect half a pig for chef Li. In episode 6 Wang claims he lost pork business with Yixiang restaurant because of "Li Deqin recommended Changyu's pork." The woman in the carriage: we didn't see her face so we could assume she is a new character. --- I believe the judge is the magistrate who is the father of the woman who threw the silver on the ground to pay for Song's debt. --- Btw, butchers in the olden days in china was looked down on and was of low status in society. (Because of religion). That is why all the comments and talk about butchers and explains stuff like why Song's mother wanted her scholar son to marry someone else. Butchers had money but zero status.

The whole concept of “fate” and what not can be traced back to Chinese Buddhism (even tied to Daoism/Confucianism) and ties the whole concept of Karma. The concept in Chinese culture is kind of an existential kind of perspective about natural order, harmony and the acceptance of the unavoidable. If you’re ever familiar with the genre of cultivation it also plays a huge part there. As for the offerings, it depends on the food. Modern Chinese families also have their ancestral hall or the spirit tablets in their homes now. We leave fruits, candies at the alter till they kind of dry out. Any meats we do eat with the family after offering it to the spirit tablets. I would assume it’s something similar in those times too.

Peep the fact that he threw silver (not a pebble) to trip the shop owner 😂 Our house husband really doesn't understand the concept of money.

I binge watched the show when it was released. I love your comments and reactions. They are so funny. Feels like I’m rewatching it with a friend.

I think it was just a rock he picked up off the ground not piece of silver.

I don't know if they do blood sausage but I know some east and south east Asian countries will use solidified blood in like soups, noodles and such. It's literally just blood that has congealed and then cut up into cubes or whatever and placed on top of or to the side of the dish. Zheng's combat teacher is NOT Changyu's father. He knows her father and will become relevant later but not for a while yet. With the hair ribbon that Changyu bought him that Zheng was going to use to bandage the bird, at least he fixed his mistake by washing it so it doesn't have blood or anything on it and can be used as a hair ribbon. According to the book Guo the guy running the pork stall across from Changyu used to run a protection racket himself and had a run in with her father in the past. Now he has a relative that works for the Magistrate and thinks he's untouchable because of it, which is why he feels he can bully Changyu and get away with it. GRANNY Jin!!! Granny is awesome she don't take shit from nobody, especially her grandson. Changyu's aunt is a real piece of work just like her husband, if not more so.
