So, this is merely conjecture, but I'm just gonna bunch a whole stuff about Aikawa, Kai, Kaiman and stuff together. I don't know in what way they are different, so that's gonna be my assumption. I think the sorcery that they have is that disorienting effect that the boss causes to sorcerers. If I remember correctly it was described this season as being similar to the rain in The Hole. For now I don't have a better explanation for it, so I'm gonna assume that it's based on his sorcery. At the same time, the whole story with the Doctor seems to suggest that Ai Coleman was a normal human from The Hole, who got turned into a sorcerer and became Aikawa/Kai, who turned into Kaiman through a bunch of weird stuff (fights En, escapes but without his head because he maybe got killed by Curse and at the same time traps Curse + is headless but somehow gets a new lizard head from the powers of Ebisu?). If Aikawa comes from The Hole as Ai Coleman, maybe he got a power that's related to The Hole? The sorcerer-disorienting rain power? The show is somewhat tough to follow, so I'm hoping this stuff lines up correctly and I didn't just jump way off course partway through.

If you remember on the flashback to when caiman was given the name caiman, he felt the name was familiar and that maybe it was "similar to his actual name". So I don't think kai was a shortened version of caiman, I think kai was his name or at least that versions name and that is what he was feeling caiman was similar too
