The actress playing Chang Yu are very fit and strong in real life. She literally can carry a grown up man with no sweat.

Great episode. Love your reactions as usual. Scrapping is a healing technique in traditional Chinese medicine along with cupping and acupuncture. By firmly scrapping specific areas of the body, it is meant to break up stagnant energy (Qi) and blood to promote the body's natural healing response. Like cupping, it creates temporary red or purple bruises on the skin that fade within a few days.

In the early episode, Chang Yu said that she was still 2 years old when her parents fled to Lin'an, and the tragedy happened 16 years ago. But it's already new year, so it's 17 years ago, that's why she is 19 in this episode. Though in the novel, you're right, she is 16 years old.

Actually, Qi min already knew the child was his. Back in Li'ian Town episodes, when the nanny was checking whether the boy was his son, the child lied about his age. But Qi min had already bought information from one of Qian Qian’s restaurant workers and had matched the dates himself. That’s why he later called the boy “a little liar, just like his mother.” He wasn't saying it randomly he had already figured it out. Also the "heir" Qi min was talking about in the last episode was his brother. Qi min refuses to acknowledge boa'er as his heir. Ironically, I think the fact that the child was his son made him dislike him even more. He seemed to see him as a future heir and a threat to the life and identity he built for himself. (Novel detail: he also hated having to share Qian Qian’s affection with this “stranger,” even though that stranger was literally their own son.)

Water from a well is really clean, and you can usually drink it right from the source. Usually, when I visit my grandma in the summer, who lives in a village, I drink water from her well because I don’t like her tap water. I can taste the chemicals they use to clean the tap water. Another bonus of well water is that, in the summer, it is really cold, so it’s very refreshing.

Scraping, the coin on the back is still used in Chinese medicine. It is to release toxins, As well as correcting meridians. I find this a very intimate and tender scene. A saving grace is that Changyu saved some of the villagers that she realizes at the end of the episode. This are brutal times and sometimes as whole village is lost in historical recollections.

This is one of the harder episodes to watch... it's just so sad. Almost 1/2 way through!!! Love that you are enjoying it and looking forward to you starting Prisoner of Beauty on the 3rd!

Scraping would have been a thing the Chinese audience is familiar with. In traditional medicine it's to expel stagnant qi, excess cold in the winter, excess heat in the summer, among other things. Actually, my parents did it to me when I was a kid when I had gotten hives from an allergic reaction. Personally, I don't subscribe to the effectiveness of TCM, but it would have been pretty accepted in my parents' generation. I've also heard it's still very popular in China, though I feel like most westernized Chinese Americans like me aren't so into it.

People want to make sure you understand this scraping thing. It's good to know if you watch more historical dynasty setting C-dramas.

Lol QiMin is definitely the definition of the trope. Not even death can have you. Lol

Jane

i will say it is also because of how the son was concieved. Qi Min is someone who wants everything under his control.

The asswipe harassing Changning with the snake and his girlfriend from the bandit stronghold were camped by a river. Back in ancient China or anywhere really during the rough time period the show is set in would have had vlean water pretty much anywhere.

When it comes to Qi Min you ain't seen nothin yet with how fucked in the head he truly is.

FreshestAnime

yeah its my first experience even hearing of scraping i think

In Episode 11, Chang Yu told Xie Zheng that before went to the Capital, Lord Li asked her about when her parents came to Lin'an and if she remembered something, and she said it's impossible because she was only 2 years old at that time. The scene when Chang Yu roasted the nuts and Xie Zheng feed her.

Qi Min reminds me of a King in a manhwa I read where he was so obsessed with his wife, he killed his children because they hated her

The way some of you are commenting this kind of sh is just funny to me😂She works out and she is strong but she is still a human, she literally said that it felt like dying in their BTS, that is not easy, especially considering her height and weight, she made an effort by carrying Linghe. Even if she said it was fine, I wouldn't believe her.
