Mr. GPT

Oh my gosh, I hated Wei Shao’s behavior in this episode too, not to mention the rest of his family. Also, I just wanted to clarify something: the woman you think is his mother is actually Wei Shao’s grandmother. Meanwhile, the woman you think is his aunt is actually Wei Shao’s mother.

SJ

The marriage was arranged by her grandfather and his grandmother. His mother was the one who sent the divorce letter who is his cousin’s aunt…

judecarden supremacist

valid crashout lol. i was also extremelyyy mad after this episode. likee what are we doing. just some clarification, the one who fixed the marriage is wei shaos grandma lady xu (in armour that came in later during the flashback) not mother (she was crying during current rites and upset over wei shao marrying qiao's daughter too). wei shao had told the lady cousin in the beginning when entering to handle manmans entry into the mansion after rites ended. he did not follow up and just assumed it had been done. personally, i also blame him somewhat cos like thats your wife and her first time at in-laws considering all the blood feud how did you not ensure she was safely brought inside after 3 days? the lady cousin who said she was following aunt's orders means her aunt is actually wei shaos mother. cousin refers to wei shaos mother as aunt meaning the mother actually planned that divorce letter.

Lol...why are you shocked!? This aint no modern romance. Its political strategies...at least right now. I mean at this point he can't stand who she represents. She is his whipping post to vent all the pent up anger, hurt and betrayal. A betrayal that cost him his grandfather, father and brother at a young age, and now he's being forced to sacrifice himself in marriage to the very ppl that took his family. He could care less about her feelings, thankfully she understands that. Personally I'd be more shocked if he just all of sudden had no more animosity towards her and her family at this point. Cause they have no trust, rapport or relationship built yet, but its starting. We already saw the seeds planted. Also nope on the complicity bs! Imo...yeah the individual that does the crime did the thang! Their scum, evil etc. But if a person knows someone is doing the crime and also offered their support and assistance if ish hit the fan and then bailed to save their access and for theirbenefit? Nah...they're horrible excuses for existing! I honestly have more respect for those that take action and stood ten toes on they business then those know, look the other way, ignore or pull their support for their own sake!

BTS_ARMY NOONA EVENTS & MEETUPS SEATTLE

Why they have to earn your trust!? 🤣 The Generals...too lost many family members because of her family and can't stand her yet, but they're softening. Not enough to go against the chain of command though. The last one having come from his momma. His momma told them to keep her out, that he divorced her and then send her back. They don't question u less given a reason. Why should they align with her instead of the Lords Momma considering the history just because she been sitting out there in the rain? But yeah his momma and uncle is on some bs!

JennX_10

I agree too: however, in this instance, she was just a child. A VERY young child at that. You can’t really consider her complicit in her grandfather’s actions… even if she did throw the divination moons. Seemed like a coincidence she even did that.

Sinha

This is his second cdrama..Plus I'm sure we all get all the wei anger but at the same time, Qian Man, wasn't present when the betrayal happened. Shouldn't blame the kids what the parents, grandparents and ancestors did if the kids are different

Peppermint

The cousin pisses me off lol. Also the cousin plays qian (Baors mom) in pursuit of jade. I thought it was interesting how many layers shao has. But man sometimes he makes such awful decisions.

CA

A great emotionally charged episode. A few things... 1) Don't know if you recognized her, the actress (Kong Xue'er, aka Snow Kong) that plays Shao's cousin is the same one that played Yu Qianqian in Pursuit of Jade. Her character is Shao's cousin from his mother's side (she is the daughter of his mother's sister). Keep that in mind but I'll say no more. 2) The hall where the rites took place is the Hall of Ancestors. It contains the memorial tablets of all the ancestors, not just those that died 14 years ago. 3) Shao called the uncle that caused the commotion during the rites "Tang Bo", that means the uncle's father and Shao's grandfather were brothers. He has a distant claim to the throne but because Shao's grandfather was the head of the family, his grandmother as his widow, could name Shao as the successor.

...and he was a child too when all this happened. Like he's had to shoulder the burden and responsibilities of vengeance, she had to shoulder the responsibilities of paying for it. Thats how clans and feuds work.

Xenodix

I'm scared, I feel like I'm being scolded hahaha...

Yoruka

LiSu the guy who invaded Xindu literally ordered every male to be slaughtered in the City including the military and soldiers that died fighting. Generations of men were killed in that span so that also comes with generations of hate running through all of the Wei's hearts for the people (Yan/Qiao family) who to protect themselves can argue it was the right choice for them, but won't change how the Wei's see them as traitors who left them to die. I enjoy this drama alot because so often the trauma is instantly forgotten for love/romance, here its always gonna be in the back of the mind and result in rightfully tense cringe moments for their relationship.

Overlord

40:10 why are you surprised about his own family opposing him, did you literally forget how in kingdom zheng's own mother wanted to kill him ? this is normal for chinese stories lol

Love your reaction as always. Two things I wanted to talk about: The wedding and the word "Betrayal." First, the wedding. I think a lot of people are interpreting Wei Shao pouring out the wine as pure disrespect toward Xiao Qiao, but it's not, not really. Not eating the food was disrespect borne from guilt. They're kneeling in front of the memorial tablets of his grandfather, father, and brother. He didn't just randomly dump the wine. He raised it toward the tablets, bowed his head and poured it out as an offering to his ancestors. That's a traditional way of offering wine to the dead. That scene felt like he was presenting the marriage before his family first. That also fits with what he tells Xiao Qiao afterward. He says he will protect her and won't harm her, but she must no longer be a daughter of Qiao and must become a Wei. The distinction he's making is important. He's not ready to accept the Qiao family, but he's willing to accept her as part of the Wei family. Hence why he offered the wine to his dead loved ones. Second, the word "betrayal." The reason why alot of the Wei's see the Qiaos as worse is because of the word "Betrayal" When the uncle said the betrayal was worse than Li Su's crimes, It's actually understandable(You can agree or disagree that's a personal prerogative, personally I agree, not cause I am right or wrong I am just wired that way because I am big on loyalty) Li Su was an enemy general from an enemy state Bianzhao. Enemies attacking you is expected. That's what enemies do. The Qiaos were allies. And that's an important distinction because what existed between the Qiaos and the Weis wasn't just a "Truce" but an "Alliance". A truce means two sides agree not to fight each other. An alliance means if someone attacks one side, they should expect to deal with the other side too. That was the entire reason the Qiaos proposed the alliance they needed that military strength they kinda lacked. While the Weis had one of the strongest armies. The Qiaos provided irrigation and resources, and the Weis provided military protection. Both sides benefited from the arrangement. For years, the alliance itself acted as protection. Anyone thinking of attacking the Qiaos would also have to consider fighting the Weis. That's why the issue isn't whether the Qiaos were strong enough to save the Weis. The issue is that, from the Wei family's perspective, they abandoned the very obligation that the alliance was built on. To put it another way: if a random stranger attacks you, that's terrible, but it's also something you can expect from a stranger. If someone attacks you while your friend stands beside you and then walks away without helping, most people would consider that even more painful. Not because your friend threw the punches, but because they were the one person you trusted not to leave. (P.S don't like the "Bystander" mentality which is probably why I so understand the resentment) And in a time when one's "Honor" is such a big deal. The betrayal cuts much more deeply than the enemies blade. Li Su was an enemy acting like an enemy. The Qiaos were allies who, in the Wei family's eyes, failed to act like allies when it mattered most. You can disagree with the perspective, but I don't think it's fair to say he was entirely wrong.

Dana

Im sure a lot of people died. But he's honouring all his ancestors. So those tablets go back for as long as the clan existed, not just recent deaths. Its basically an old cemetery...with tablets.

RahaMi

There are places you will be mad .. but yes not this much...

RahaMi

Loved your reaction.. thank u

DryLtd

In all societies Betrayal from allies is always worst than being defeated by enemies. Mostly because some enemies would not have won if not for Betrayal.

MinLuna21

Also, the cousin is Qian Qian in POJ xD

DryLtd

Breathe. Court politics are about to begin. More betrayals incoming.

Djahmine H-R

Exactly ! Like yes, obviously Man Man doesn’t deserve to be treated like that, but from his POV, her and her family are the same entity. He watched his family being killed, a lot of clan’s man. He grew up bearing the expectations and resentment of the whole clan. He’s traumatized, angry and probably has survivor’s guilt too. And the worst part is, it wasn’t some random people that betrayed them , but people’s that made an oath , that they considered almost family ….. that’s the worsts betrayals of all. After 14 years of resentment and plans of revenge, he has to marry the enemy… that’s just another betrayal for him and his people… You can’t expect them to forgive or even just dissociate ManMan from her family that quickly…

Djahmine H-R

Yeah, I love the realism of it. Where it’s a proper marriage of convenience. Absolutely no love or trust in the beginning. It comes afterwards, when times has passed and they get to know each other.

Djahmine H-R

I definitely don’t condone the way they acted, or the fact that they didn’t act. But they’re soldiers, and like you said, they don’t question an order. Even more so when the hatred run so deep. Why would they care ? Obviously it’s really frustrating to watch, but it just makes sense for the context.

Sgafx

Man, I love your reaction, where I can see a clear culture gap, also what makes this kind of reaction interesting. Chinese culture is distinct, deeply rooted, and passed down to the present day. It's also the origin of the East Asian cultures. Just try to step back, jump out of your modern Western value system, and understand the storylines from a different angle. I believe you will learn a lot. I hated those personal guards, too, at that moment. The storyline there doesn't make humane sense, and it's poorly written.

Jae

i think that there is a point where we can understand a character but also disagree with their actions, I do understand where wei shao is coming from, him and all wei family about their hatred to qiao, but I am not sure if you watch attack on titan, but people's suffering because of their ancestors is the kind of mentality that should be eliminated, it is not fair that she is being subjected to the hate that her grandfather had done to wei, or what the other qiao decided then, she too has just become a tool in this whole thing. anyhow, one of the great thing about the show is character growth, people hating him on his earlier action are valid which does mean not understanding the character

Brissygirl

Yeah the whole "Common families use ferrets" or whatever was said in episode one by the uncle of the asshole cousin who kidnapped her. It must have sucked to be a servant back in ancient China, having to walk beside the carriage rain, hail or shine while your master or mistress rode in relative comfort inside!

Brissygirl

Grandma set up the marriage not his mother.

Coco T

I just realize that, see how mad you are at the generals, it's kind of show us, how hurt and mad we could be when our trust ones do nothing when someone else trying to hurt us. I guess that how the Wei's all feel about the Qiao. Common sense tells us, it's the one who act in the crime really the bad ones, but when our loved ones or trusted ones didtn do something when they can, it hurts even more.

Michelle

just realized the irony of you getting so mad at the end when your original argument was earlier, btwn the person doing the bad thing (is worse) then the ones standing nearby doing nothing lol

Ching

I do get the wei's.. they lost their family, it's not easy to just forgive and forget. your reaction seems like they are just in the wrong..

Ching

I like you reaction reason I subscribe but let's watch listen and try to understand, it's quite annoying to listen to all the unnecessary rant..this is not modern drama...

Mia ♡

I know this is like 3 months old but omg MONEY WELL SPENT 😭 I love how passionate you got! THIS is how reactions should be! I know there were people complaining but normally when people are watching shows, they don't have future knowledge so they react based on what they're feeling in that moment and that's EXACTLY what you did! And I loved every second of it LOL!! I'm so happy I subbed!
