We have been wondering what is the " Jade" in Pursuit of Jade? At first I thought it was just Changyu, since she is always being pursued by the Marquis, Xie Zheng. His given name includes the character " Yu" which means jade. Our folks here that can read Mandarin can give further explanation if they want. But as the episodes have progressed, I think the metaphor is broader. It is the pursuit of a true love. Think Qi Min and his obsession with Ms. YU. He wants a possession, which his twisted mind thinks is a true love. And think of Gongson, the Stratigist, in his pursuit of the Royal Princess. Then we have other characters like the Grand Tutor Tao wanting to adopt Changyu, or Mrs. Kang giving up her life to save her grandson and Yu Bao'r.

I like how they portray Changyu as a strong female character but at the same time she makes the guys in her surrounding look like they are weak and she has to protect them, even though they are having to protect her instead. She may be dimwitted about things and never consider the consequences it may cause for others even though she sees it as protecting them but in turn it makes her selfish instead. As for Lord Li, he is a commander while she is a nobody in that moment, so she underminded his authority in front of his troops and made him look like a fool.

I agree. Her accomplishments are great but people tend to forget that she almost always had a veil of protection around her, placed by Xie Zheng. She could really have died in several occasions otherwise.
