Yeah the dynamic of their relationship goes a long way before they truly trust and love each other. I feel like that because he's shown multiple times that he won't forgive her clan, even though he has it now, and constantly shows that he's pretending and manipulating, it causes her to mistrust and do the same thing back to protect her family. It's a cycle they'll have to break. It's so frustrating to cause you as the watcher, can see he's slowly changing. I constantly felt like his mom and cousin needed to be put into their place, especially his mom. His cousin thinks she has this power because of her, but they don't punish her, they treat her very gently in my opinion considering they not only are disrespecting their Lord, but also his wife of choice..

With this show and many other dramas that are politically charged, it is important to remember the weight on everyone's shoulders. Man Man needs to protect her home, as she is well aware of her family member's incompetence. She is using what she can - her wit and manipulation. Words are all she has in enemy territory. She does not trust Wei Qiao and rightfully so from her point of view. Every time she shows him grace, he does something behind her back. And vice versa. This dance will continue for a while. Neither of them trusts the other. When they gain some trust, they never verbalize it. How is the other supposed to know? Plus, they respect the other's intelligence enough to be weary of tricks. Neither one of them is excused since they are messing up the fragile bond of their relationship. But to them - that is the last thing on their mind, really. There are factions behind the scenes, like the ones we saw spying on Boya. Priorities will take time to align. But trust me, a lot of these political dramas have incredibly sweet fruit (aka the ending). Also, in the future, I do hope you may try out some other genres! Like Love in the Clouds for a more fantasy twist on historical Cdramas. Or other more wuxia (martial arts world) centered ones. There are a whole bunch of em. Many with queer undertones, as china censors most of it.

Lol...good reaction! I do find it funny the diff in how you respond to Changyu manipulation and Manmans! 🤣 But you right to get frustrated with her lies and manipulation towards the end there. The thing with the fabric is about the pattern and you were right it is little kids. The fabric she picked has the Flourishing Descendants pattern (known as qian zun bai zi in Chinese, or the "Thousand Grandchildren/Hundreds of Children" motif). The fabric is embroidered with a pattern of many children, a traditional symbol of fertility and wishes for a large, prosperous family. Its like a baby making pillow!!! 😉😉

I think the biggest problem of this whole thing 14 years ago till now, it's the useless yet selfish and stupid uncle and his men. They are the ones who convinced the QIAO grandpa to not back up the WEI. And they are the ones who ignore grandpa's last words of taking care of QIao MAN. Also they are the ones who criticized Qiao MAN's ideas and yet make stupid decisions all the time. Sadly he is the oldest son so after grandpa died, he become the one in charge. With so much wisdom as grandpa and Qiao Man, I wish they could deal with the real problem and take the uncle out from the beginning, cant image how much better so many things could turned out for everyone.
