That's exactly Wei Yan's plan. Controlling Chang Yu through the emperor and making troubles for Xie Zheng. You know, keep your enemy closer. And ruining the emperor at the same time. He is meticulous. Ps: Do you see the flower headdress in the intro, beside Zheng's feathers? It finally showed up in this episode when Chang Yu entered the capital. So beautiful, our flower-adorned general. And everybody in her crew also wore flowers on their heads.

You got the handkerchief tradition right, it is the same, so basically giving handkerchief is either a confession or showing admiration to the generals, etc. and fan changyu now have fangirls lol also changyu just cannot meet up with xie zheng because he is not technically back to capital yet, a general and their army cannot go back to the capital without an imperial edict, and the emperor had only gave imperial edict for changyu, li huaian and the jizhou army they have split up command, so xie zheng showing up at her parade and surprising her later is just him being sweet while concealing that he returned at the capital. btw i laugh so hard when you imitate the emperor's childish behavior lol 😂

Also a general's arrival at the capital without an edict was considered rebellion and was punished by death. Xie Zheng is taking a big risk.

I like how the intro shows all the major transitions of the story without any details to spoil anything.

The Emperor being pitiful is suppose to be funny. I laugh because I know he is the bad guy. Why because if the Emperor is not the protagonist nor best friends with the protagonist then they will be an antagonist eventually.

I think you have it the other way around. It's Prince Changxin that had something to gain by refusing the reinforcement and that's by eliminating the next in line to the emperor, Crown Prince Chengde. Wei Yan was not involved in that plan at all. His fault and guilt lie somewhere else that will be revealed later. Also Prince Changxin was the former emperor's brother, where as Qi Sheng was one of the lower princes/sons of the emperor. So Prince Chengde's brother from a different mother is Qi Sheng.

true but xie zheng doesn’t care about imperial edict, that is hinted with his encounter with certain scholar (iykyk) he has his own agenda for concealing himself

The fancy armor is for dressing up to meet the emperor in the capital, not for battle. I think they all have different style armor for different purpose.
