I think the flower on her forehead was supposed to be a birthmark, like the woman who was born with it, symbolizing that she is the lady of good luck, and the country who own this woman will defeat all enemies.

I think what you say about if WEI SHAO should read MANMAN's letter, technically speaking is right, but only if they are not in a relationship. And if they are, then things are way more complicated. As people always say there is no right or wrong in a relationship.

Milo

To me most of their fights was for petty, comedy, I did not know it was to be taken this seriously... lol

18:00 response- My take on this is both in agreement with your frustration, and a devil's advocate take. First, I agree Wei Shao has the right to read the letters. Manman took over Boya under his nose while making use of his good intentions. He has the right to be wary and suspicious. But on the other hand, I believe Manman has a right to be upset. To recap, she took over Boya for one main reason- Yan's protection after being cheated out of Panyi by Wei Shao. Boya was a replacement for Panyi. The first act of trust by Manman was giving Panyi to Wei Shao to solve the people's crisis. She was then cheated and kicked out. This started the push and pull of misunderstandings between them. So they are at a sort of stalemate, both are right and wrong, and entitled. Final note: regarding their overall inability to communicate. I kept reminding myself while watching this series of three things. One, they're both in their first ever relationship, constantly afraid of getting one-upped by the other and young. Second, Manman reads to me as an incredibly strategically skilled person, but less so emotionally speaking. There is a difference between emotional and calculative intelligence, I'd say she leans towards the ladder. She spent yearns under her grandpa being taught science, math and strategy. Not how to read a husband's mind or to navigate the peril of home-life. That was more her cousin's cup of tea. Third, I wouldn't say Manman agreed to only be a Wei. She was forced to be silent on that matter because of the arranged marriage. She is not a Wei. She works for both Yan and Wei. While she strategically enforces Yan and provides her home protection, she simultaneously looks for assistance when Wei's in crisis. However Wei Shao is blind to this, as he assumes the worst whenever anything relates to Yan. Can't blame him. Also, with how Wei Shao and the rest of the Wei's keep reminding her that there is a blood feud between their clans, that Yan won't ever be forgiven and Manman should just forget about her home country -- Manman's fear of attack is understandable. In general, I agree with your frustration. But I also understand both of the character's actions for their age, responsibilities and promises made. Manman promised to protect Yan and heal the wounds dealt to Wei to her grandpa, who is dead. Wei Shao promised to stay alive and eradicate Yan to his family, who are also mostly dead.

Multiple things can be true at once, I think. From the perspective of a ruler, Wei Shao is completely in the right to monitor her letters. From the perspective of a husband who is attempting to forge a relationship, that shit is wack. Unfortunately, they have to play both roles at once. And I think ManMan’s upset is stemming from the perspective of a wife moreso than a strategic opponent. Also, as nice as it would be for ManMan to place her full trust in him and not make a single move, it just doesn’t make sense. As far as she knows, Wei Shao still fully intends to take down her family. And her elders have thrown up their hands and placed the onus on ManMan and her relationship to protect Yan. She has limited resources and is fully at the Wei’s mercy. If she doesn’t act, then Yan is left completely vulnerable to his perceived threats. It’s just super complicated all around.

Speaking the full name of someone is basically an insult. People rarely address each other by their full name. Writing Wei Shao instead of the Lord of Wei was done puporsefully to insult him and put him in his place. It was pretty daring of her.

RahaMi

Loved your reaction.. Also they are not communicating becoz they are not like this since start.. They both knew that they did something wrong from their end.. but as we can see wei shao is actually starting to have interest and trust in man man so he felt more guilty.

Leon Tan

Same sentiments hahaha, if i am a ruler of Wei and given what happened, I would totally read Manman's letter without any guilt, but their exchange was funny as f hahaha

Lady Yu Luo is the title given to Su E Huang (her birth name) after she married the Lord of Bian. Lady Xu (Wei Shao's grandmother) is her maternal grandfather's sister.

BTW Wei Shao is NOT a king. He's a warlord. There are no Kings during the waring states period, just warlords fighting over territory.

DryLtd

You are right but Manman is also right. Remember she wants to talk about it. Wei Shao feels guilty which is why he doesn't want to talk about it. But this is the romance conflict of him slowly putting away his suspicions and trusting his wife and becoming her prisoner.

Dana

Agree.

Bian makes me think of Ba Sing Se or the Earth Kingdom in Avatar haha. Also, I get wei shao reading her letters; it affects his kingdom, since, like you said, she was going behind his back. I also get why she did it because he kept saying he wouldn't forgive and would eventually attack. But where they are at now, like you said, they just need to communicate with each other. It would solve all of their issues. They won't learn to trust each other, otherwise.

I agree with you...because of their history. I understand why he's doing it. She is being manipulative and making moves behind his back. But I wish they'd just talk about it! Cause I can't stand the high she gets on like her ish don't stank too when it comes to him, instead of understanding her actions have consequences.

Brissygirl

Yan is not militarily stable because they have an army of sorts but nobody to actually lead their troops, which is one of the reasons for the marriage alliance with Wei. Your great aunt is the aunt of one of your parents.

Ching

Totally agree with you, she started it so she should be ready for it to backfire eventually
