Here I would have to disagree. I don't read Wei Shao's behavior during the wedding as utter disrespect. His choices at the wedding were emotionally cold, but they were also deliberate and honest about the kind of marriage he believed they were entering. Main reasons are as follows: 1. He made sure Xiao Qiao still consented to the marriage, then personally went out to hunt for the lynx, unlike Liu Yan. He showed her respect here. 2. He treated her with outward dignity during the ceremony. He went through the ceremony calmly and gracefully despite all of his men were watching with deep hatred. When she nearly stumbled he supported her. Those are small but meaningful signs that he was not trying to humiliate her. 3. Refusing the shared food and drink was painful (as a woman I completely understand why that moment would hurt Xiao Qiao), but it was not necessarily contempt for her. I took his message to be: I will honor you as my partner in this political alliance, but I will not pretend this is a love match or promise a shared personal life I cannot yet give. The ritual of sharing food and drink during Chinese weddings symbolizes two people sharing their lives together. By declining it, he was drawing a harsh boundary, but also being truthful rather than performing affection he did not feel at that time. So I would say this is not the same thing as cruelty or disrespect.

Sorry Joe 😂 I saw the fandom comments coming a mile away when I first watched that episode with you. It never made sense to me why people would get mad about a reactor’s reaction. Isn’t that literally the point of watching these channels? 😂 Don’t mind it too much, they’ll calm down eventually. P.S my favorite "Enemes to lovers" trope in a cdrama is definitely "Fated Hearts" A largely agreed upon consensus.

DevilsQueen

Love between Fairy and Devil is also a good one (but idk if it's completely an enemy to lover)

Jordan

Agreed!

Jordan

Thats such a good one! But i also agree, im not too sure how much of an enemy to lovers trope it is lol but still AMAZING

This episode answered my question from the previous one about the dam/reservoir/river etc. You said it she drained the wu marsh to make it look like she had dammed the river and then tricked them into thinking if they tried to cross they would be drowned. She didnt drown them or fight them and basically TALKED them into retreating. THAT is diplomatic skill!!!

After watching soo many c and k dramas.. and indeed this is the best of best enemies to lovers.... Loved your reaction.

I cannot WAIT for wednesdays ep 😂😂 im so excited as you get closer to the end 😢 I also agree, Uncle Yan (forget his name rn) is definitely not looking good in Wei Shao’s eyes. The first thing he did was scold Manman for “making the lord” help her down 🤦🏻‍♀️ he loves how much Manman loves her people, her uncle is like the complete opposite it seems 🙄

JennX_10

I agree!! This is the best one. There are other amazing ones that have been mentioned but this one is just on another level in my opinion.

Mr. GPT

This was sooo good!! Wei Shao has matured so much. I loved that moment between them, the mutual appreciation, the way they acknowledged each other, and all those heartfelt words 🥹🥰

DryLtd

I love when you are mad at characters. It shows they are acting as the scene calls for.

DryLtd

The trope Enemies to Lovers is broad and includes just not liking the person when they first meet. Indifference is not included. They have to atleast not like each other.

The Double is also a good one but again wouldn't classify it as enemies to lovers completely but love between fairy and devil is a good one too, those along with love like the galaxy and love me kill me are ones i have re-watched.

I am in full agreement with you. His disrespect during the wedding ceremony was absolutely real and absolutely aggravating. (Even if as another poster said, it was not inherently at her, which I can see and value that argument, I can still dislike and feel some kind of way about his actions during the ceremony. I’m not saying he needed to partake; just that it made me upset and shocked the way he acted (similar to your frustration with him); why even bother with the pretense? Maybe I just do not understand well the “need” for all the rituals and rites to be “officially” married but I mean, to pour out the liquor while she drank… and everything else that she would do but he just refused or disregarded… just ugh. I simply cannot tolerate and set aside my frustration with him just because his intentions MAY have been to show that this was not a marriage of affection and that all he has is hatred and disdain for her family). I remember when I first watched it my jaw dropping at the absolute indifference to the ceremony, like something he just had to get over with and didn’t care about. At that point in time in their relationship, that is absolutely what it was but nevertheless, the rituals they did not want to partake in, could have just been removed. I mean they didn’t consummate because she was in mourning, I’m sure reasons could have been made to omit or have an unofficial official marriage alliance. Not that you want nor need my validation but I just want to say that as a long time fan of the series who has watched this show about 6 times (ish) I saw no issue with your reaction. As you said, it was written to incite that kind of reaction as an audience of bewilderment that he would act in such a way after he brought up and agreed to the marriage (finally! At that point in time). Sure we weren’t expecting love and affection but an unorthodox ceremony, not one where she did the rituals and he just went… meh, meh, meh. Also, yes, by far in my opinion; best enemies to lovers story ever.

literally what i thought of when he said best enemies to lovers lol. fated hearts definitely tops it in a different way. i hope we can get either fated hearts, blossom or generation to generation after love in the clouds if it's not a modern cdrama (in which case I'd love for the best thing to get a chance).

judecarden supremacist

i actually don't think you were that mean towards wei shao at all lol my thoughts towards him was way more violent during my first watch 😅
