I absolutely understand your frustration about how long it took for the reveal to happen, but it goes back to both Leon and Marie being complete idiots, going back to their previous lives. But Leon also wasn't working with a full deck - he assumed Marie knew what she was doing because of how easily she slid into the protagonist's role... but in reality she only knew about the reverse harem from Leon's save data. It's actually worse in the spinoff alternate timeline series - they have a very similar moment to this, but they never come to the realization and completely miss the train... end end up betrothed to one another - although it's more of a partnership to save each other from worse fates (although it's written in a way that you know they secretly harbor feelings for one another).

For the same reason they still didn't get it when they were REEEEing about their shitass siblings. Since from THEIR OWN POV they AREN'T like the descriptive words being stated about these siblings, they can't connect the dots...

Ngl the ending where Leon and Marie figured out that they’re both siblings from the past lives kinda made me teared up but that’s just cause I’m too sensitive to these kind of things lol.
