This is exactly why I was happy this show won the poll. The others are great shows; however, this one just has so much more than romance. There are multiple revenge plots happening (his AND hers... remember, she's trying to heal her spiritual veins and thinks he may have been the one to poison them), PLUS, there are some amazing twists to come that are completely unexpected!! I love how excited you are for the story itself cause it is SOOOO GOOD!!

Mad Hatter

30:18 so about the "immortal" thing right, BEAR WITH ME: I think it stems from the 3 realms of traditional Chinese Mythology. They are the 3 planes of existance. The top floor is the heavenly realm, the middle is the mortal realm, the bottom is the underworld. The idea is that mortals can cultivate (practice traditional virtues, meditation, martial arts, spiritual arts, etc) to reach the heavenly immortal realm. However, in shows like these that are not just rooted in mythology but also take creative liberties, things are a bit different. Love in the Clouds treats being born immortal as a "baseline" for all its characters on screen. They're born into that 1st heavenly realm thats then further divided. They all have longer life spans, some are naturally born with spiritual veins, etc. They know of the mortal realm and do not identify as such. There are SIX lands in the heavenly realm in this series. Jixing Abyss is one of them. The hierarchy of those lands/realms is not organized through "mortal soul cultivates skills and ascends into heavenly realm or falls down to reincarnate" but through resource management. The "Blessed Rain" that the tournament fights over. It's both physical money, and the concentration spiritual energy that fuels people's spiritual veins. The way I see it -- thats why realms that lose the tournament a few times in a row are unlikely to win it again, as they are *weakened* throughout generations without the boost of spiritual resources for both the land (fertilizer, clean air, water) and its people (spiritual abilities, physical health, etc). The Jixing Abyss is a prime example. It took a freak accident (Ji Bozai) for them to find a powerful warrior. They could not train fighters, because their land was dry of spiritual energy for years. Its like the pixie dust from Tinkerbell for lack of a better comparison lmao. Now, back to the *"immortal"* comment. It is similar to saying "civilian (insert name)" or "person (insert name)" as a neutral way to formally address someone. As everyone there is born "immortal" as opposed to "mortal". Some are human spirits, like our main characters, some are animal spirits, some are plant spirits. The "immortal" default is further specified by gender, normally referring to women as "fairies". Btw for a reminder, women in JIXING specifically are required to seal their spiritual veins at birth with binding nails within the body. Back to the topic - the "lord", "warrior", "princess" titles are the ones that actually denote rank. PS: About some characters like Yan Xiao being without spiritual veins but able to use basic spells - from what I understand --> they can practice basic spells like small telekinesis type stuff and most without veins use artifacts. All characters have "primordial spirits". They can channel inner QI. however the potency of its impact is limited to your spiritual veins and their strength, which is also variable. Some have veins but are incredibly weak so in reality they're pretty much considered "veinless". I apologize if this was messy, but I hope it clarified some things :D I pray I am not wrong, as again, it isn't like the series sticks to traditional mythology so much of this is my interpretation based of off things said in the show. <3

100000% Agree. I remember how truly rattled I was at the surprise of substance in this series. i started watching purely to see some new actors as it was my first time seeing the female lead's actress in action - but stayed for the actually interesting plot. Cliche to say, but this rarely happens to me nowadays. Mo Li is another good one of recent shows.

The word you are looking for is "court". Kings hold court with their Lords and Ministers. The grumbling is common in US Congress, Parliaments, and any government body. The name and positions change but humans grumbling is the same in all cultures.

Mad Hatter

THE PETALS: When heavenly grief infects the body of an immortal with spiritual veins, like Ming Yi, the poison slowly drains their life force and gradually corrupts, blocks and shatters their spiritual veins. The progress of the poison's spread is tracked by the flower mark on their wrist. The flower has petals that are a countdown to the victim's death. When Ming Yi uses her spiritual veins to channel stronger spells (like the bow scene) vs weaker spells (like cutting the rope) - the petals fall accordingly. One strong spell, one petal down. All petals down? A cold and painful demise. Why can't she just not use magic? The poison will kill her and drop petals on its own anyway. It will just take more time. Hence why she is AVOIDING casting spells so she doesn't exponentially speed up her death. Casting qi requires it flowing through her body, which also pushes the poison along quicker. But she can't stop looking for the Millet Dream cure - as death is creeping up immenantly anyway.

This ep is also where I got locked into the show. There is definitely a lot of depth in this show than the first few episodes let on. Another show I love is Love Between Fairy and Devil. Also a lot of emotional depth and story telling in that one that one wouldn't think from the first few episodes. Great reaction as always. Looking forward to the next one!

The First Frost, Fated Hearts, Love between fairy and devil, and Hidden Love.

Its really intriguing learning more about ji bozai backstory, im really enjoying this so far, it'll be interesting to see where it goes from here especially when the main characters eventually find out more about the truth of each other

It's crazy how Love Like the Galaxy didn't make the cut. I guess it's not as popular as I thought

I liked that one! I don't remember how many votes that one received to try and get put in the poll, but he only takes the top five of the recommended shows, so it definitely didn't make the short list. It's also very long in comparison to others so probably not as many people have watched it. He seems to be enjoying them! It's unfortunate that there are so many good ones and new ones coming out constantly (I'm not complaining for me personally) ;)... for a reactor, though, it's so hard to narrow down the choices and make everyone happy.

You talking about how you like good story telling is why i also think you'll like The First Frost. it is a romance but the story comes full circle when you get all of it. And I think you'll love that aspect of it. The dissecting of both MC and MMC. I agree, though they did a great job on this ep.

The Double literally ticks all the boxes of what you said you love in a show. An extremely strong and great revenge story with in depth characters and a romance that develops naturally along the story without feeling like it's overtaking the plot. Also, I'm really glad that you're enjoying this and giving Ji Bozai the hype he deseres!
