This series is a tough watch for me because it hits a little too close to home - my dad got bored in retirement and got into daytrading... and to this day refuses to admit he effed things up. The problem with daytrading and forex and stuff like that is you can never compete with the inside traders or the bots... and those two significantly overlap which means you don't stand a chance. But cable channels and programs (my dad's "drug of choice" was Kramer) make it look so easy... and next thing you know you're irreparably in the hole. This episode itself literally said you get so deep into it it's no different than gambling.

99% of traders get margin called right before they win big

Losing that 800k yen wont make her in debt. She earned that 800k simply from part time jobs plus a few months of investing by herself. So losing all of that isnt the end of the world. Shes still very young and she can earn those back in no time. However, stealing 3M yen to tank the loss is another story. Shes now play with money that she truly cant afford to lose.

Yea, unfortunately, people don't realize that as a retail trader, you're not supposed to be competing with big money. You're supposed to get your little slice of the pie & get out. Unlike gambling, Forex/Trading is "winnable", but it's a test of your mentality & personality. Like we saw in this episode, even though Kurumi entered a bad trade, she was up at one point & could have just taken profits. Heck, there was even a point where should could've just accepted her losses and tried to recoup another day. However, most people do exactly what Kurumi did. They get super attached to the money, because they worked for it, and can't exit the market when they should. You shouldn't play the market if you don't have the psychology to detach yourself from the money. Sorry about your dad's situation, though.

When I trade, I already have it in my mind that, "I would've just wasted this money on fast food, streaming services and video games anyway." So, I'm not emotionally attached to the money I trade with.

That’s literally the same mentality as “I’m walking into the casino with $100 because that is what I’m prepared to lose”. In the end it’s just another form of gambling.
