I love this movie. I'm so glad you watched it, Ollie, and what a great reaction as usual. So, here's my attempt to clear up some moments of confusion or questions that you had, plus some fun facts about this film. The reason Baby dodn\t asl her dad to give Penny an abprtion from the get-go is a complicated one, but it has a lot to do with the time in which the movie takes place. Most of it can be hard to understand from the perspective of today, but I will try my best to explain. First, back then, even if you weren't religious (and there is nothing saying whether her father is or not either way, having a child out of wedlock (while not married) was considered a no-no for a woman. Back then, women who did were branded sluts. Most would lose their jobs if their boss found out, because they would see it as "unseemly." By exertion, a woman who got an abortion would be exposed as one, so many did it in secret. Also, keep in mind, from the start of the movie, it's shown that her father and Max (the guy who runs the resort) are friends. He is Penny's boss. If Baby asked her father, not only might he judge Penny unfairly, and possibly even refuse to do it, but she'd have been worried it would get back to Max that Penny was pregnant, which would cost her her job. Also, also, there is the risk that Baby's father would fall out with her (the way he ended up doing anyway) for having anything to do with a woman who sleeps around and got knocked up. It's too risky for everyone. Baby was therefore not only trying to help her by giving her the money, but she was trying to help her keep her job by doing the dance, and keeping her secret. Oh, and there are strong hints in the movie that fraternization with the clients is against the rules. That's why Penny told Jhonny to stop the relationship with Baby, because it could cost him his job. At the end, we see that Max is okay with it when he sees them dance, because what they\re doing turned out to be a positive thing that could save the resort whose business is losing steam. The song that you know (Time Of My Life) was not chosen for this movie, though some of the songs were. it was written for this film and became hugely famous because of it. The song you said was really great, the one that played while Baby was saying goodbye to Jhonny is called She's Like The Wind. It was also written for the film. Oh, and by the way, the singer is Patrick Swayze. :D I believe the other two major songs, Hungry Eyes, played when he was first teaching her, and This Overload, played when he smashed his car window, were also originals written for this movie, though someone correct me if I'm wrong on those. Here's one of the most interesting facts about this movie for me. Swayze and Jenifer Grey hated each other. I know, it's hard to believe because they're chemistry is so off the charts hot, but it's true. They couldn't stand working with each other. It's a testament to how great both are at acting, that they made their on-screen chemistry look so real and effortless. And I agree with you, Jerry Orbach was great in this. The man was a fantastic actor. He also starred on Law And Order (the original) for quite a while. He passed away some time ago, though. RIP, Jerry. Oh, and I heard somewhere he used to be a theater actor. Weird, right? It's hard to picture him singing in a musical or being on a stage in a play., but apparently he was really good. LOL Speaking of the word fantastic. The word you used, Fantabulous is already a thing. Lots of people use it. It's a combo of the words Fantastic, and fabulous. It's kind of like the word ginormous, which I use all the time. It's a combo of the words gigantic and enormous. Again, awesome reaction, Ollie. Can't wait to see what's next!
